Greg Tindle

Our title-winning captain Greg Tindle has retired from football ahead of an impending hip operation.

Sadly it was injuries that likely held him back from the upper echelons of non-league.

He made well over 250 appearances for us across two spells and rarely gave a performance below 7/10.

A Chippenham boy, who played for FC Chippenham as a kid, watch us at Wembley in 2000 and would go on to skipper the team.

I hope the club can invite him back for a match at some stage, he won’t have to dip into his own pocket for a pint that is for sure.

Happy retirement, Greg.

Re: Greg Tindle

How about tindle doing a gerrard, and come in as manager, least he would be more vocal on the sidelines 🙂

Re: Greg Tindle

What a player he turned out to be, flourished under Collier he and Will Richards were as good as you get, if only we had a few like him now. Heart on his sleeve.

Re: Greg Tindle

Greg Tindle was an absolute warrior for Chippenham and never gave less than 100% commitment on the pitch.  He almost single handedly dragged us to safety after the carnage of the Fey/Rudge era and was key to the Southern League Premier title winning squad.  A true club legend - what a player.

Re: Greg Tindle

A Chippenham Town legend.

He'll be welcome back at HP anytime.

Re: Greg Tindle

A top bloke. And a great skipper. Always gave everything he had to give. Never left anything out on the pitch. Always led by example.  Shame about the injuries.  But as the above comments say a real legend of the Bluebirds.  I can see him getting into management at some level somewhere. Good luck for the future  Gregg. 👍

Re: Greg Tindle

A modern day Chippenham legend. The word is reserved for those very few who have given absolutely everything to this club in their time and I don't think in my some 25+ years supporting the club I have seen somebody who embodies more the "Pride and Passion" emblazoned on our shirts than Greg Tindle. The lads who took us to Wembley, legends, Iain Harvey, James Guthrie, both long servants to the club in a very successful time for us, Andy Sandell and Dave Pratt for their scoring exploits in the two seasons together than took us to the heights we are now, all of these lads are legends of the club. Greg is an Icon! Born and raised in the town, schooled here, affiliated with the various youth teams his entire young age and for me, Greg is the one that stands out above them all. Came to Chippenham Town a young defender and suffered various setbacks and adversity to become the captain of Chippenham's only modern era League Champions. That season was special for all of us, for many reasons. But very little feeling on earth matched watching the elation as Greg ran from his own half every time to jump over the back of the huddle and scream towards his supporters in sheer ecstasy! Watching him lift that Southern League Shield above his head was one of the proudest moments of my life, the culmination of a seemingly impossible task to see us into the National League South after so many attempts via playoffs and just falling short. Personally I would like to thank Greg for making my dream come true, watching my team win that League title and taking us up! Enjoy your retirement now Greg, you have earned it and there will always be a spot at Hardenhuish for you I am sure. Captain, Leader, Legend you will always be!

Re: Greg Tindle

Last night, reduced to frequent, uncontollable bouts of tears by The Voice's fulsome tribute to Young Gregory Tindle, Late of this HP Parish, Her Ladyship broke all recent records and managed to stay conscious enough during "Only Connect" to cobble together her own tearful hymn of praise to Captain Courageous.  His Lordship takes no responsibility for it at all, although he appears to get an unmerited  mention in the last line!?!

Greg Tindle, Greg Tindle
Few will ever so kindle
Our respect, our hearts and our awe.
Surely every single
Bluebird will tingle
At the memories you gave us to store.

So let this be a send-off
For the wonderful end of
An era we'll never forget.
When that left boot let fly
The ball scraped the sky
( And sometimes the back of the net)

Greg Tindle, Greg Tindle
May the future still find you
Still engaged in the footballing "Task"
Maybe soon  you will mingle
Among we faithful, even take a single
Nip from His Lordship's flask?
