Spot on, newfan. I thought we looked really hungover and off the pace. Slough got at us from the off and bothered us and hounded us into a rash of silly, uncharacteristic mistakes... and from none more so than the usually reliable Luke Spokes who had a shocking opening 10 . For 20 minutes or so we looked completely bewildered and simply didn't know how to deal with a pretty rampant Slough, so we simply responded by passing the ball laterally and endlessly, to no discernible effect. It was shout-out-loud frustrating and even embarrassing at times. We looked completely static up front with players offering very little for the back 3 to target. We were lucky to only go in 0-1 down at the break.
An immediate and costly mistake by Tom Mehew at the start of the scond half led to their free kick and their second goal. Game killed off effectively. After that we enjoyed a decent spell with some threatening moves, AAH up front and a decent penalty shout turned down, before Slough reasserted themselves and literally walked right through us for goal No. 3.. which was pretty much a metaphor for the whole evening. I second the comments about Will Dawes.. a player I really admire... who is beginning to resemble a pantomime figure with his arms spread wide endlessly regaling officials and seemingly the world at large. He's a disciplinary headache for Management and needs to calm down and let his football speak. We also lacked leadership on the pitch. Freddie in the stand was more vocal than quite a lot of those out on the grass.
Context-wise, we have had a greaty recent run with a sparkling home perfomance last time out against Eastbourne. This was us at our worst and most clueless ( similar to H&R). History shows that we do bounce back well... just a pity that the next opportunity is away to Farnborough which will be another potential banana-skin game against a side who know that if they press us relentlessly , we'll get rattled and flustered into making mistakes. Hopefully a different CTFC turn up... and one with a slightly less porous left flank where we were weak last night. ( see their 3rd goal!!)
