Last Night's game v's Swindon Town

An excellent performance by our boy's, narrowly losing 3-2 against a Swindon Town team comprising Under 23's and First Team squad player's. I felt the first half STFC showed their quality with slick passing and went 3 up, albeit it 2 of their goals came from glaring defensive errors which need to be sorted before we kick off the new season. However, the second half saw the introduction of Jake and Pratty, who caused STFC all manner of problems with their pace, and the game changed completely, with Swindon chasing shadows for most of the half. 2 goods goals from Will and Pratty meant the game finished very tight, and I think if the game had run for 10 more minutes, we would have got another goal. So an excellent crowd of just under 700 were treated to an entertaining game, with Jared Thompson making a world class save from a breakaway (I still cannot believe how he got to it !!) near the end. Have to say I'm still no clearer as to what our line up will be against Havant & Waterlooville. I saw 2 of their officials walking out at the end, and they did not look too happy - hope that is a good omen. COYBM

Re: Last Night's game v's Swindon Town

It was 5 first team players all under 21 and the remaining players all youth team so under 18. It wasnt great considering. But at no point near out strongest team I feel. Good crowd though. Hopefully simular crowd Saturday for the big one. I hope 6 of the 1st half team and then 5 who played in the 2nd half start on Saturday.

Crowd prediction Saturday : 720.

Re: Last Night's game v's Swindon Town

Only saw the second half, but thought it was entertaining.  We obviously didn't have our first choice XI on the pitch at any one time but we knocked it about well enough.  Wonder save from Jared towards the end - he also got his fingers to an earlier cross-shot, although the ref gave a goal kick.
Would of been a good experience for the Swindon boys to be in a proper game, especially as statistically most of them will end up playing their football at our level or similar in the future.
Their Manager, Alan MacLaughlin, was pleased with them according to the Gazette website, especially the way they "defended the hill".  Was he at Silbury?

Any idea who Matt Jones has joined Reginald74 ?  Must admit I did hear one or two people talking about him going last night at the match. Hereford and Salisbury were mentioned, but nothing on their Sites.

Can't believe he would get in at Hereford or Salisbury. Pook not used last night either.
