Standard of Refereeing

The referee did not have a bad game last night against Cinderford but the same can not be said about the Kings Langley game. The level of refereeing I'm sure is having a negative impact on the attendance at non-league football just when we are trying to boost the numbers through the gates.
We have seen many referees being assessed at Chippenham but I don't see the level of performance rising and the same old shirt pulling, holding at corners and key players being aggressively marked out of the game going unpunished.
Time to raise the bar to get new fans to take this level of football seriously and be the next generation of CTFC lifelong fans.

Re: Standard of Refereeing

Don't think there is an answer not a nice job. As for shirt pulling etc the players are very clever now a days.
We are chippenham old boys and we sing when we want.

Re: Standard of Refereeing

Did see and hear the manager explaining his feelings to the officials last night re disallowed goal, he appears to do it in a good way which obviously helps.

Re: Standard of Refereeing

As I'm sure you know my wife and I provide the meals and hospitality in the VIP Lounge for match sponsors and Vice Presidents etc. etc. This also includes providing the match officials with food after the game, which is invariably the same meal as provided to the guests. To say the arrogance of the current batch of officials  at SPL level  is overwhelming is an understatement. In their eyes they are above criticism and are only concerned with the criteria set by the assessor. On many occasions when officials have been challenged in the VIP Lounge after a game, their response is 'if the assessor is happy we don't care about anyone else'. This arrogance does the game no favour's at all, and I feel some kind of meeting of minds between the Referees Association and the SPL to determine what the referee's expect from player's on the pitch may go some way in gaining respect which they seem to crave for, but get very little of it for the reasons mentioned. Would appreciate other opinions on this. COYB

Re: Standard of Refereeing

Not sure how the standard of refereeing has an impact on attendances though.

Re: Standard of Refereeing

I have to say the standard is sometimes poor but, in all honesty I have not found one referee/assistant "arrogant" in the boardroom after a game, most of them are decent lads doing it because they enjoy it. Maybe it's about the way you question them because, very often, there is a rational explanation which we as supporters either miss or choose to ignore - no game without them.

Re: Standard of Refereeing

I guess no matter what is questioned after the game it will never change any injustice for either the home or away team, but if all they care about is the assessors opinion they are not doing their job. Does the assessors outcome push them up the football pyramid?
In response to Wellard I believe if the team play's badly then fans drift away but if this is compounded by an insufficient level of refereeing we will never grow our fan base which is an integral part of the sustainable financial push needed for the next level of football unless you know any millionaires who have a few quid to spare for the cause.
