Re: Dream Comeback

I think the honourable member for Raiding Spaces, was refering to my comment earlier in the thread, and a misunderstanding as to which part of Whites tenure was a cockup. I meant the end, he thought the appointment itself.
And he may have slammed the door in a bad tempered manner on the way out, but the reason he was going though it in the first place was very much down to the board at the time.

Re: Dream Comeback

Ronnie, correct me I'm wrong here but did not Bath City approach CTFC for permission to speak to Chalkie regarding their manager vacancy at the time ? CTFC refused them permission and Chalkie insisted on an improved contract to continue at CTFC, which was also refused. Needless to say Chalkie walked, taking Ronnie with him. The rest, as they say, is history.

Re: Dream Comeback

My understanding of the Chalkie/Bath City situation (and again poor memory may pay its part here...) was that the club allowed City to talk to White, he went for the interview but when he didn't get it he resigned citing the club allowing him to talk as the reason. There could of course be more we don't know, but just from that it seems like he threw his toys out and the club did little wrong. (I think there was also something about someone being on holiday at the time??)

For the record I felt Chalkie did a very decent job for us but didn't cover himself in glory on his exit. I wonder too if he still has that five game touchline ban ten years on?

He didnt walk to Bath though did he? - I take your poiint though, there was a lot of stuff going on that clouds the exit. And he probably wasnt completely without responsibility.

Re: Dream Comeback

Joe - was on Rovers books when he was about 16 but didn't make the cut.  Has played for Tytherington Rocks and Shortwood but now at Chipping Sodbury Town who have just won promotion to Western League Premier Division.  Won 6-0 at Calne on last day of season, beating Wells to the title on goal difference. (Finished 2 goals better off than Wells).  Stewards enquiry called for at Bremhill View surely? ;-)
Just call me Statto.
