Disappointed

Disappointed only 3 goals what's going on ? Seriously a brilliant team performance by the Bluebirds against a Histon team which was but a shadow of their promotion side. No what I'm disappointed in is the good people of Chippenham. They have a team that's playing the most attractive football  I've seen from them since the days of Constable and Gilroy, every time they go forward they look like scoring. The weather was dry and mild for mid January, the sales are nearly over Christmas is a distant memory yet still we struggle to get bodies through the gate. I know that in this 24/7 society some people are required to work on Saturdays but this still doesn't explain why we can't get a regular 400 to 450 spectators every week. Look at this message board and you can see by the number of hits that there is interest out there ( yes there are some hits from supporters of other clubs but most are Chippenham people). So come on support your local team after all this season could turn into something special. If we go up to National League South we will need at least 500 to be able to afford to put out a side that will stay up.

Re: Disappointed

Totally agree with you Hobgoblin. For those of you not familiar with the term it is called Chippenham apathy. The slightest hind of a drop of rain, or any other excuse people care to dream up not to watch CTFC. God damn it this is the best squad we have had for many a season, playing good attaching football and second in the table only 2 points behind the top team, and following a brilliant 4-0 away victory less than 400 turn up. Pathetic!!! I take on board Bluemoon's comments that some people's work pattern fall on a Saturday, but that must be a relatively low percentage compared to the population of the town. Spoke to the Chairman at great length on Saturday after the game on this very subject, and he was very, very disappointed at the crowd for Histion, and at a loss as to what the club has to do to encourage more people along. Come on people of Chippenham and the out-lying districts, turn up in FORCE this Saturday to follow the boys against Kings Lynn. This season is going brilliantly and the team deserve far better support than they are getting at the moment. We have every chance of going on to bigger and better things and we need the backing of those extra few 100 people. COYB

Re: Disappointed

The trouble is as disappointing as it is that we are playing well and still the masses haven't returned it isn't anything we have control over so IMHO it's not worth getting stressed out about. Personally I think more could be done in the town. Maybe a potential to advertise the games more? Ticket sales in the high street? Create more of a buzz to the best of the clubs ability? I think we have come on leaps and bounds in recent years in terms of making ourselves approachable as a club. The appointment of a commercial manager is a good thing. Now all we need to do is focus on the pitch and people will come for National League South. Yes it's fickle but that's the nature of the beast sadly. Personally just glad that the team we all know and love is doing so well

Re: Disappointed

I used to be a regular Chippenham supporter but due to family and other commitments rarely make games now. Many good loyal  fans have stayed away over the years due back room politics.
The observation I have made in that time away is that apart from the fixture board on Bristol Road and reports in the paper, CTFC does very little to advertise games to the local town.
kids for a quid, fixture lists in shops, etc... no forward thinking I'm afraid. This seasons child is our future supporter.

Re: Disappointed

Although I agree we deserve larger crowds the figure has to be seen in perspective. Crowds have dropped at our level over the last few years and in that time the Southern League have lost a lot of well supported clubs to the Conference and above who used to bring a lot of away support e.g. Bath, Worcester, Gloucester, Crawley, Tamworth... The 364 crowd against Histon was larger than 7 Southern Premier crowds and larger than 10 Ryman Premier on the day.

Re: Disappointed

I understand what all the posters have said on my post and agree with most of it. Places like Bath, Gloucester and Worcester have never really been football towns, Rugby is their sport. I have posted before about encouraging kids but nothing seems to happen. You usually only support one team in your life, so get them young and keep them for life. So come on the board lets see action off the pitch to match what the lads are doing on it.

Re: Disappointed

Free Tickets for all Youth Players with an accompanying adult? Certain ages concessions? I know we do some of these things already but I can speak for myself. I started as a bright eyed 8 year old and was hooked ever since. Get em young is definitely a good idea. I was lucky Wembley was quite soon after I started coming and the love affair grew from there but new players, new times ahead who knows when the next great memory will be!!
