FA plan

In season 2015-2016 the FA plan to start a new league. It will consist of ten teams from the Conference and ten B teams from Premiership clubs. This will obviously have a knock on effect throughout non league, and you can bet the likes of Man U etc will resign from the league rather than be relegated to Conference north if that scenario happens. The idea is to produce more young English players. Personally, I think cricket has yet again got it right - hence in County cricket there is a restriction of 2 overseas players. Even the moneybags Indian Premier League insists on 7 of 11 being Indian. So rather than mess non league up why don't they put a limit on foreign players in the Premiership. Money anyone? Five live discusses this tonight at 7.30

Re: FA plan

I think that this is a terrible idea. No doubt, once again, it has been shown that an organisation which is supposed to be independent and representing all levels of the game such as the FA is favouring the biggest clubs in football. They have already neglected funding the grass roots game, and this has no doubt been a contributing factor to a lack of quality English players, due to the fact that there are less decent training and youth coaching facilities.

Let's be honest - We have the strongest football league system in the world. Adding 'B-Teams' to the mix would tarnish the level of competition, and would also probably damage revenues for the proper clubs in this new league. After all, they are less of an attraction to supporters attending games, and they are less likely to bring significant away support. Plus, it would de-value the leagues below the new tier to some degree.

I agree with you, only a limit on overseas players can solve this problem. Not preventing the top class stars from bringing their quality to the Premier League, but instead preventing the more average overseas players who have been speculatively brought into roles which could be filled by English players from leagues below, who need to be given the opportunity to make the step up. Look how many quality English players have surfaced from the lower leagues, even amongst the current system - Theo Walcott, Ricky Lambert, Leighton Baines, etc...

We should be encouraging these ways to give lower league players a chance to bring their game onto a new level, and strengthening our football league system to ensure more young players have access to good facilities, rather than trying to supplement the biggest clubs.

Re: FA plan

In  principle I agree with Premier B teams joinging the league but be fair about it and like every other club they must start at the bottom of the pyramid and work their way to the top.  look how much stick Team Bath took until they dropped out.  and should the FA increase the number of promotion spots each year but limit the amout of B clubs can get promoted from each league.
