The finances will take a hit anyway mate. Attendances will be crap as we are in the Tinpot League South. Must bounce back up straight away

Dangerous talk referring to the SLP as "Tinpot". First of all it implies that we are we are too good for the League, like aristocrats lowering ourselves to mix with our natural inferiors.... which is just arrogant. And secondly, it is the sort of talk that creates unnecessary pressure on the Club, and suggests that anything other than immediate promotion will be unacceptable. I would argue that the SLP is probably, for the moment anyway, our " natural" home given our resources and gates. NLS is our ideal League, and we did very well to remain in it as long as we did.
A bit of humility and realism might not go amiss this season. We find ourselves in a good League, with a very young but bright and energetic squad. Pre- season suggests we are going to be positive, and despite the relative physical disadvantages that we laboured under in the NLS when playing so many physically big, powerful, full-time teams... we should hopefully encounter fewer of those giants and more teams that we match in terms of physicality. It appears we have technical quality enough. As InsideLeft says.. it will be late September / early October before we get a sense of where we sit. Hopefully in the upper half. Gates will inevitably be reduced, but as much from fewer travelling opposition fans ( no Torquay now) as lack of Home interest. if we play the right football and get some momentum, I would expect Home gates to hold up pretty well. That is an "If.." of course.

Agree. The NLS seemed to outgrow us, we had by far the lowest average attendance last season with just shy of 700. This would have been the 11th highest average attendance in the Southern Prem which says it all really.
I am, accordingly, anticipating a mid-table finish next season. Whilst I have said I'm not delighted with the academy oriented direction of the club, at least we've signed a fair few in their 20's who've played at this level or similar before, which should give us a good foundation in this league and in theory keep us away from any trouble. If we have a good year I can see us in the playoffs. We are, however, well off the likes of Gloucester, Bath and Havant.
We indeed have to treat this league with respect. Weymouth and Hungerford both went down from the southern prem last year and they were teams we were playing regularly in the NLS not too long ago.

Very preachy and a bit happy clappy Rambler. Not exactly arrogance - someone having a opinion about the standard of a league of low standard. Having seen a few matches at that level, it's not that great. Also what is wrong with a supporter wanting better and more for the Club they pay good money to watch? As for showing a bit of humility, think you'll find the club acts in a far too humble way. That's why they got relegated, still have the same failed management team and a side on the pitch which nobody at the club has any expectations about.

Why is everyone being so negative,we haven’t played a league game yet and some are writing the season off.Yes last season wasn’t pretty ,but many said we were punching above our weight.Lets wait till mid September and see how things are going.Its a chicken and egg situation,crowds come to watch entertaining and winning teams,that brings in more money and hopefully better players,better results,bigger crowds and a better atmosphere.When things are going well everybody is happy,that’s a fact of life.If people didn’t invest in the club where would Chippenham be.

Another demagogue.. speaking for the masses on the Terraces. I'll take the "preachy" if it means that I'm prepared to disagree with an opinion forwarded .Puzzled,though, by the "Happy Clappy". Been called lots on this Forum, but never that! I'll take it as a compliment and badge of honour. The rest, I'll let lie. Others will make up their own minds.

Let’s see were we are after 6 games, not playing anyone special and teams we would have beaten last season dispite being awful. I think the 7th game might be a thumping though.
