Re: Retained Players

You have to wonder exactly what is going on. Would prefer an open statement which provides  any information, good or bad on the playing situation.  With Parsons leaving so long after other departures makes you think that the club made him various offers none were acceptable. This makes you think could any offer be higher enough to attract anyone good enough to play SL football.
If the team will comprise mainly academy players next season say so and at least then we know what to expect. Effectively left with 3/4  players of any real experience and one of them I understand unlikely to start the season.
Wonder if any of the money going to starting up a womens team reduces the funds available to Gary Horgan or it's a separate budget.
Going to go to the question and answer evening which as things stand at the moment should pretty interesting.

Re: Retained Players

One can only assume with so many departures, that the additional investment that fell through (because we were relegated) has had a massive impact on finances and Neil is no longer willing to fund it to the previous levels he has been.

Re: Retained Players

Also getting fed up with seeing constant new regarding the legends match. How about the actual squad!!

One question I’m often asked is about the academy, how is it funded, does it take vital funds away from the 1st team? Not really that many players co
Ing though that we are goi g to make huge profit on. A few thousand here and there.

As I understand it we have 6 players at present, and no new additions have been announced yet.

As for the academies, the educational aspect ( local school or college) will be funded by central government. As for the footballing element as I understand it there are various different ways it could be funded but I would be surprised if the academies don't take money away from the parent club. I guess to be self sufficient the academies rely on developing players that can be sold on.

Re: Retained Players

I find it absolutely disgraceful how the club have been treating the supporters. If they want people through the turnstiles they need to start showing some respect to the paying public and keep us updated. The first friendly is only a few weeks away and no news on the website apart from crap about a meaningless Legends!!! (I use the term very loosely) game. If we are not bringing players in for Christ sake just tell us.
The Q & A session on Friday is going to be very interesting and l look forward to all the excuses for the way we have been forgotten.

Re: Retained Players

And yet another pointless article on the website about an unimportant ex PL 'legend' - oh hang on, Lee Trundle never played in the Premier League!!!

Re: Retained Players

Think it is all very amateurish.
Supporters are frustrated and annoyed with what has been going on there - on the pitch and off it.- The lack of communication ahead of 2026/27, has been a new low in the communication stakes,  yet they put out 'mysterious' tweets yesterday and today about a statement tomorrow at 17.00. Think they really lack understanding of how folk are feeling..Of course the announcement could be more advertising boards being sold but if it is player news after following their "club policy"  -  i cynically wonder if they are trying to exaggerate this news, in an attempt to sweeten some up -  just before a Q and A -  when hopefully there will be scrutiny around how the club is being run.

Re: Retained Players

I was unable to make the Q&A last night, anything come out of it?
As for the Statement of Intent, more like stating the obvious - who are the core set of players who will train during the day? Thought this was already happening with the Academy lads - does this suggest that our squad will consist of these youngsters and the 6 players we still have.
Will wait and see what announcements are made next week regarding signings but not expecting much to be honest.

Re: Retained Players

It will be a young team next season. Development and pathway seem to be particular buzz words. They stated new signings are coming soon and plenty of trialists will be at pre season training. Listening to Gary Horgan's radio interview they are looking for players who can commit to the model and will be looking to take punts on lads rejected from league academies. Others in attendance may  have a different take,  but the vibe i got last night, was that the football club is now just a player development project, based at Stanley Park and with an academy coaching influence. Academy Plus if you like. Would definitely assume that the passive academy style will remain the outlook. More stats, more clipboards, more excuses, more "better luck next time's".

It's not for me. It's not what I want to watch. So - i won't be watching it.
