Re: Horgan has to go

Previous postings say it all really about today's game and the season so far. We are at home and presumably the priority getting 3 points but no, start the game with 3 CENTRAL DEFENDERS and relying on midfield players to do the job of part time striker. Why when we had 2/3 strikers on the bench? Result Whenever we did move forward it was usual to see 1 Chippenham player in the box along with 4/5 defenders.
Strikers often operate better as a pair but this season the side never stays the same 2 games on the trott which doesn't give the players an opportunity to gell as a team. But again doesn't seem to be the manager's style to play 2 strikers  in most games.
It maybe the case that the manager's hands are tied by injuries/suspensions but given the total lack of information which comes out of the club on the playing side we have no idea on availabilty and can only comment on what we see before us.
What l have seen this season it's been a case of trying to work out what tactics are been employed and team selection which has often been baffling
Continue the way things are relegation very much on the cards by start of 2026.

Re: Horgan has to go

Aren’t we all,
Can’t paper over the cracks fella, Horgan is defensive minded and doesn’t like to score goals at home. Been like that since the playoff season.

Re: Horgan has to go

My main concern with Horgan is that this isn't a freak loss of form- it's been coming since last season. It was always our attackers/attacking play that was singled out for criticism last season, and it's exactly the same as this season- albeit now more perilous and to an even worse extent.

I do feel, however, that no matter who's in charge, with the growing financial might of the league compared to our modest attendances and budget, we would do well to stay up much longer.

Too early in my opinion to sack a man who's been at the club just under 10 years in some capacity, but I can not justify much more of the absolutely tepid football we've been subject to so far this season.

Re: Horgan has to go

My thoughts now the dust has settled from yesterday. I feel this is a tough league with half the teams being professional and we haven't had the easiest starts at all, but yesterday was poor. I think Enfield as well was a game we would hope to get a result from. I was encouraged in pre season at attacking talent being brought in, especially when last season it seemed we were relying on one not very mobile forward every week. However, it seems wasted when they're all on the bench and a midfielder seems preferred to start up front, also when chasing a goal yesterday our subs included a defender for a defender and a midfielder for a midfielder and not until the 80th minute Touray coming on. I feel with Castro, Touray, Koszela there is enough there to get us goals but the last two especially coming up a level need games to get used to this level, not the odd 10-20 minutes off the bench.

I don't think Horgan's job is under imminent threat as its a long season and we've often been in low positions before then got a few wins together and been fine. Also our chairman is not one to panic and likes to stick with managers which I think is a good thing. But yes, things need to improve.

Re: Horgan has to go

We have some talented players in our squad but I think it’s blindingly obvious we have very little or no goal threat.  This is a tough league and we need a couple of experienced and strong individuals in the final third, not a few lads who until now appear to be well out of their depth.  And there’s the rub - reliable goal scorers cost money and are in short supply.  Still relatively early days, but if we want to stay at this level we can’t afford to be cast adrift points wise.

Re: Horgan has to go

In my opinion Gary Horgan has done well to stay as manager for this long. At other clubs he'd have been shown the door long ago. The team selection often makes no sense and the tactics seem to be sit back when we don't have the ball and when we do, go forward slowly with elegant little passes. This isn't the premier league, the players at this level aren't good enough to play that way. We need to adopt an old fashioned 4-4-2 setup with fast wingers. Get plenty of crosses in and someone will get on the end of one and score a goal. Why is it that the players are reluctant to take a shot from anywhere outside the penalty area? Do they not know that keepers often give strikers a second chance to bury it into the goal or have they been told not to shoot from outside the area?

Re: Horgan has to go

I think it's too early for a change, and just remember Gary Horgan has an assistant manager and coach who must also take responsibility for the current state of the team and the tactics employed. The next few games (including the very important cup game) could define the rest of the season.

Re: Horgan has to go

How about Parsons and Holloway up front, could that be the answer to our lack of goals. The only problem with that pairing is that no supporter knows when they will be fit.Could the club please give us some indication as to there fitness.

Re: Horgan has to go

Now that our cup run is over it is time for the chairman to make the right decision and thank Horgan for his efforts and let someone else give it a try now before it is too late - the management team have reached the peak of their capabilites and have no idea what to do next!
We are rapidly going backwards but perhaps this is what the board want as it would mean lower running costs in the Southern League.
As said beforehand, it would also be good to hear how the injured players are recovering but that is asking far too much.
