Worthing MOTM Poll

FT 1-0. The playing surface today made it quite an unpleasant watch, but a spirited performance- especially in the second half, sees us get a win over the line.

Haines and Poffley were very busy but combated Worthing's big centre forwards very well. Mehew was good, thought Sol had a very difficult job up front but did alright and TOEs relentless battling when subbed on helped us get the win over the line. Jake Evans MOTM for me though, even without the goal he was still very classy today, bringing some much needed composure on the ball onto a very bobbly surface, and very solid defensively- hopefully he can stay fit this season.

Re: Worthing MOTM Poll

Nice to have things drop for us today. Great win against a team who are good but don’t have that X factor anymore education certainly helped at times. However, the pitch would have levelled Manchester City today. It’s a disgrace and the lack of effort is something that the club should be ashamed of IMO.

MOTM is a tie between Evans and Poffley for me. For a 19 year old to handle their striker like he did is impressive to say the least. I don’t think it will be long until he is also sold. Jake’s first start and he was everywhere, really helped us in their direct play.

Decent crowd for a BH Monday.

Re: Worthing MOTM Poll

I thought today's game was very poor almost throughout. Yes the pitch is difficult at present and the wind wouldn't have helped. What with the countless offsides and players feigning injury this was a poor advert for this level of football. As for ourselves we desperately need the injured players back and as for Worthing that's the poorest side I've seen from them.

That said a valuable 3 points and something to build on.

Re: Worthing MOTM Poll

I don’t think it’s a lack or effort more likely funds.
Water is hugely expensive and we aren’t a club that can leave the sprinklers for hours at a time, it’s not rained significantly for 2 months so presumably the tanks are empty.
Was told today they have had the fire brigade to help water the pitch.
Still does hide tha fact both teams were awful, the game was awful and a few of the new lads that started today look well off the standard for NLS.
But we won….its going to be a very long season!!

Re: Worthing MOTM Poll

A game not for the football purists. What is starting to brass me off is all this shirt pulling, blocking people off the ball and pulling players to the ground.Referees don’t stand a chance of controlling a game, unless the assistants start assisting. In the end yes we got the three points, but we will play a lot better and probably lose.Thought the defence did their job well, but little on offer in midfield and up front. Yes maybe the pitch at the moment isn’t the best, but what can you do if there hasn’t been any rain.

Re: Worthing MOTM Poll

I’ll weigh in on the pitch as it’s a bug bear of mine. Firstly, I’ve learnt we have a full time groundsman now!!!  What does he do all week? Secondly go visit Melksham, Supermarine, Highworth etc, the pitches are green.A couple of levels below.  Look at the bowls club next door. Green!!  There is water available, it just isn’t used and it affects the team and our entertainment as supporters.

Ours isn’t just unwatered though, it’s outright neglected. Nobody clearly touches it pre game or post game. You could see where the crows have pecked the pitch apart and it was not even patched up.

Nature of course will help in time but given all the money the club has made pre season with friendlies and player sales, what the hell is going on.

Nobody touches it pre game or post game?  That is probably one of the most ignorant comments I’ve seen on this forum - period.  Why don’t you go and have a word with the Chairman, I’m sure he’d be delighted to have a conversation.

Re: Worthing MOTM Poll

I thought it was a good game and we just about deserved 3 points based on our second half performance. Everyone in the team gave a good account of themselves on a very hot day and hard pitch. I was also impressed with Poffley and Jake Evans deserved MOTM for his goal, but I also thought Colwell did exceptionally well today against a very physical and quick attack line. We did well to soak up pressure in the first half perhaps just one sniff at goal for us in the first 30 mins, otherwise pegged back in our own half. Started to get very tetchy and I thought the ref might end up sending someone to the showers early, but he just about held the game together riding out a few flashpoints. Substitutions and timings of changes were well managed too I thought - credit all round. Maybe we rode our luck a little, but we've been on the end of some bad luck previously and what goes around comes around eventually. Nice birthday present for Doc Martin.

Oh and great to see Freddie in the stands shouting encouragement and sound advice to his team-mates

To be clear I am talking about the morning of the fixture and immediately after. The grass is obviously cut in the week. Tony and a volunteer used to go round after the game repairing things but that certainly has happened this season.

We can all come on here and give our views on players performances but we also have a paid groundsman so he is just as open to opinion as any player would be in my book.

Re: Worthing MOTM Poll

Lo and behold, the next time we all rock up to Hardenhuish after this week’s impending downpour, the pitch will no doubt be looking much healthier. I’m sure those responsible for it have done the absolute best they can with the resources available to them.

Ground out that one today - with the opening five fixtures we had on paper, I think we’d have probably taken four points from them. Hornchurch will be an interesting test, bring it on.
