Today

Scoreline doesn't really reflect the game at all, but a s**t end to a s**t season for home fans - the only saving grace is finishing above Bath.

We don't score enough goals and our possession based negative defensive play is simply not attractive enough to encourage people to attend.

For the first time in over 10 years I haven't renewed my season ticket. I'll pay when I am free and willing to attend next year only

Re: Today

It turns out I have a limit to what I will post a MOTM poll after, and that was it.

An awful game. Why it took 4 goals and 60 minutes for Gary to change anything I will never know, I'm no expert but tactically it looked bizarre with all 3 of our attackers really narrow, and the bobbly pitch and lack of space in attacking areas meant our midfield, who seemed off the pace anyway, could only give it away or play it backwards. It's no surprise that when we brought Leone on- an actual winger- the game opened up for us and we started creating chances.

14th, in my book, indicates a reasonable season on paper, but the football at home has typically been overly cautious and slow. Hopefully we can refresh the squad a bit over the summer and come back and play some better football, because we have played some great stuff under Gary in the past. It feels the game today was the culmination of all the worst aspects of this season rolled into one painful match.

Re: Today

All round it was awful. That a sub was given man of the match summed it up.Baffled by the tactics - anyone the wiser where McClure was meant to be operating first half? Within the first 20 minutes he popped up on the right wing, holding midfield and even left back. At least he was noticed, i suppose - some of the usual suspects went into hiding as Hornchurch passed and moved around us with purpose. To be fair, the way the team are set up/asked to play, hardly helps the players against assertive opposition.Anyone else think Spokes for instance would be more effective getting on the ball further up the park rather than picking up possession just outside his own penalty area?

Overall think we looked once again like an Academy/Development FC. Maybe the chairman needs to get Gary to write a report as to why the home performances for the 2nd season running have been miserable. If things are to get better from a spectacle point of view - the dull, passive and ineffective academy style needs to be ditched. Some livening up would help as well.

Re: Today

I have been watching league and non league football for over 50 years and today is only the second time I have walked out in disgust at my teams performance.
The style of play shows little attacking intent serving  up a dull feast for the paying spectator.
I know several long term fans who are turning there back in the club after being served up with a season of dross
I, for one, thank Gary for his efforts over the last few years, but it’s time the management team are replaced with someone with more attacking ideas

Re: Today

And the icing on the cake, the Chairman in his season ending speech asked us again to bring friends, family to games in a vain attempt to increase crowds.
Are they really that blinkered!!
Whist I concede we have our level and to well to stay at it, but we are simple never going to complete at the punchy end of the league or even the league above.
But the think it’s time for a big shake up both on an off the pitch. Perhaps some new younger members on the board with more fresh ideas, supporter liaison perhaps.
Someone with new ideas who can connect with the fan base, because the current board, albeit hardworking are loosing them.

Re: Today

Just listened to Gary Horgan's post match interview. I suppose he was right about his view of the game saying we were poor but to most there yesterday that's what we've been watching all season at home.

Re: Today

They ended up exactly where I said they would, mid-table. I jumped ship well before Christmas, gave them a second shot for the Torquay game. Their home form has been abysmal. Were it not for their away form they’d have been relegated.
Went to FGR amazing atmosphere, brilliant attacking football and £17. With an emerging STFC next season can’t help think people will vote with their feet.

Re: Today

A shocking, shambolic and inept performance. I don't mind us losing at home as long as we at least play some attractive attacking football and take the game to the visitors. How many times this season have we started slowly at home and been outplayed in the first half? I think I will pick and choose my games next season as this season has rarely been value for money and I can't justify the expense any more.

Re: Today

It might be more charitable to explain Saturday's performance by the fact that the team had probably drained all thir emotional and physical capital in winning two local derbies  in the 7 days before the Hornchurch game. it's pretty rough to castigate them after an excellent 6-point Easter week-end.
Everything Hornchurch touched turned to goals.  We gifted them 3 of them  by tired/sloppy passing.  Even Freddie was guilty of dwelling a bit too long. A disappointing way to finish. Not quite the close season send-off anyone would have wished.
As for  the season as a whole,  our Home form, recruiitment and retention,  the potential within the club and whether  innovation and development are being embraced from Board level down......, more of that later...  i think.
