Think I'm in the minority when it comes to our playing style. I think we will score more than we will concede playing this way, or about the same, the proof is in last season with our 12th place finish.
Overall I thought we let it slip yesterday, they had a very good press which forced our hand a little. An opportunity missed if you ask me. Thought they were largely poor and we weren't much better however if we score from McClure and go 1 up then that changes everything.
Early days, plenty of positives included Andrews and Colwell making their senior debuts. We go again on Saturday.
Increasing ticket prices is always a worry, across the pyramid to be fair. I think we should have kept them at £15 and for me kids should always be free or at least no more than a pound. Drop in the ocean stuff when it comes to kids entry prices.

Should have been 2 up before we conceded after failing to clear up in defence, not sure if Williams or Spokes at fault and I thought the strike took a slight deflection on the way to the net but Henry would have been beaten anyway.
Talking in the bar at half time about the risky goal kick routine and lo and behold what happens immediately?! I don't understand committing 2 defenders to the 6 yard box inviting pressure from the strikers and then the goalkeeper kicks it anyway

Not really the start we wanted. Probably a point dropped.. rather than three. There were some echoes of last season, particularly our response at times to playing a direct, hard-pressing side of limited talents ( Ricky Holmes excepted .. still terrific at 37 yrs old!). For the first 20-25 minutes of the second half we just couldn't cope with their harrying and heel-biting, only looking potent again after the substitutions.
Agree that we looked oddly imbalanced. Lewis Colwell starting on the left, when he's played consistently on the right in the friendlies? Spokes as pretty much a right back? McClure, Parsons, and Manning all up top but without much provision from the flanks? This is where I'd hope Nick Dawes will offer us possibilities after his return (from injury?)
I'll refrain from commenting on the bleeding obvious of their 2nd goal... but it is the way we play, and by all accounts players and management all buy fully into it.. so despite our frustrations, it aint going to change.
I'm glad I'm not a Farnborough supporter; their endless long-throw tactic was stultifying, frustrating and not even particularly effective. It broke up the game really badly into a series of American Football-like set-pieces. Poor spectator experience,.
I, too, left the ground feeling there were more than 650 or so there. Judging by the parking on the Bristol Road, it looked more like 750 to me. Different gate calculations?. Or just my spectator-number radar off kilter?

Like Rambler baffled why Colwell, a right back, was playing as a left wing back and Spokes what seemed to be at right back. Whatever the intention was it didn’t work. As to all this passing around at the back stating the obvious given the comments on here majority of the fans hate it. Wonder if the players are told play this way regardless. Why after you have conceded a completely unnecessary goal by mucking around in your penalty area from the very next goal kick with three Farnborough players right on edge of the penalty area waiting to charge forward you start passing the ball around in the area eventually then having to kick it away under pressure. No wonder the crowd get annoyed!
Very little comment about Farnborough. Thought they were better than us and physically much stronger. Having said that lost count of the number of fouls they committed. Tougher action was needed by the referee. And as for their time wasting….

Decent attendance considering the holiday season and United v City on ITV (the powers that be couldn’t give a stuff about anything other than the elite clubs) though boosted by a sizeable turn out from “the Boro”.
As for the game, we should have been in front before the two very avoidable goals conceded. Williams is all left foot so playing right side of defence unbalanced us I thought, and his error gave away possession. Great finish though. The second goal? Not even going to start on that.
Of the new boys I thought Hemmings looked strong and Parsons did well, particularly first half. We need Mehew back
and A-H (not holding my breath on that one) sooner rather than later, as we’ve got a brutal August on paper and we needed three points yesterday imho.
Hemmings, who the hell os that?

I think you will find that Clubs are obliged to include all season ticket holders in the Matchday attendance figures. This is on the basis that season ticket holders have pre-paid for the entire season.
My big gripe is that the Chairman quite naturally wants bigger attendances but our negative style of play carried over from last season will not help matters!!!

We could help ourselves if we advertised the game outside the ground
The Chippenham Gazette is a disgrace - last article re Chippenham Town on line was 31st May. The Salisbury Journal is all over Salisbury FC - so how come they can manage to cover their local club whilst the G&H totally ignore us. They need sueing under the Trade Description act!

Wellard - my mistake, I meant Mannings (Hemmings was an ex-Bath player too but didn't play for us).
As for the Gazette - the days of local newspapers are very nearly over.
