Re: Welling

Well done indeed. In my view Welling were one of the best teams I have seen at HP this season. Very direct and I was extremely relieved when the final whistle went, and 3 more lovely points towards safety were secured. That must taken a lot of courage by Horgs to haul off his captain with less than an hour played. But to be brutally honest Spencer was well off the pace this evening, and had no answer against Welling’s very quick No.21. All things considered I think we just about deserved the win tonight, and I think St.Albans on Saturday will be just as tough as tonight’s opponents. Let’s hope the guys who picked up knocks tonight recover in time for Saturday’s battle ! COYMB

Re: Welling

Another very entertaining game of football tonight. Do we need to go 1 down to play our best? That said I much prefer the attacking style we have adopted recently even if it means conceding a few. I thought there were several contenders for MOM but pleased for Tom Mehew, always industrious and who I would say has gradually improved throughout the season. With so many home games the attendance seems to be holding up quite well, boosted by a lot of youngsters it seems. An incredible month for the club, credit to all involved!

I am genuinely lost for words on your comment regarding Welling. Load of thugs who kick it long. Wouldn’t even throw the ball back when we kicked it out for the injured player. Terrible team, especially as they are full time and spend a lot of money.

Thought first half we looked brilliant with the ball. Played some lovely stuff. Second half was good in patches but showed our other side.

Noticed Geri Jill was in the crowd tonight, he must feel sick seeing a team with young players playing well on half his budget and now breathing right down his neck.

Can’t argue with MOTM - just a shame we picked up
A couple of injuries tonight.

Re: Welling

Jerry Gill at Chippenham game? About the time of year he makes his move for some of our crop…

This team are a joy to watch, play some lovely football. Enjoy these moments people, it’s been one hell of a run.

Ed Williams is a class above, what a luxury to have him come off the bench. Penalty was a harsh decision, nothing Spence could do with his arm behind his back as he fell. Wouldn’t be given in the prem.

Feel for the Welling fans who were not only subject to an abject performance from their team, but were also treated to some awful treatment from a bunch of teenagers. They were kicked out, only to return to antagonise from behind the Sheldon end fence.

Re: Welling

First of all...massive credit due. It  is hard to believe where we were  just 3 weeks ago and where we are today. An astonishing turn-around... the must-win minimum of 6 games achieved in record-breaking fashion with only the minor interruption of the Eastbourne draw. Praise from top to bottom to everyone who keeps the CTFC machine on the road from Chairman downwards. Absolutely brilliant!
I thought there were passages of play last night that were as high a quality as anything I've seen at the TSS.  As is our habit we did it the hard way going down to a good goal from a rare but highly effective attack.
I'm of Funny Old Game's opinion that , to put it politely, Welling were extremely physical and did their best to bully us.  They completely ran out of ideas after their equalising goal, hoofed the ball forward and allowed Will Richards to show what a splendid player he is of the aerial ball. Everyhing that came to him and Ollie Tomlinson was returned with compound interest as we set up wave after wave of fast counters... some of the best unortunately thwarted by Own W, who was excellent otherwise, straying a little offside on 2 or 3 ocasions.  Luke R and Tom M took ownership of the midield  and, defensively,  we began to find the pace on the flanks to neutralise their fast front 3. 2 of our 3 substitutions were for pre-existing  injuries  ( MM's ankle and Caine's hamstring) There were a lot of tired bodies out there ( as the cliche goes) With another wave of fixtures to come Gary H will see his options reduced by sheer attrition.  Good to see Pablo M, Sam Heal , (and last Saturday) Leigton T doing strides down the touchline pre-match.  One or two (?) of the 5 Academy recruits will almost certainly get a test drive when we are mathematically safe  I would think.  Don't know Mr Gill well enough by sight ... but said a hello to Jordan in his knitted beanie.

Re: Welling

Thought we were the better side for most of the game and certainly should have been further ahead at half time.
They came back into it early 2nd half but we were still the better side. Although the Subs made a great impact but obviously disrupted us a little.
Mehew was superb, showed some lovely passes and gave the ball away lot less, and plenty of nutmegs to boot.
Welling are not a great footballing side but they have a big strong striker up front and most of their play was lumping it up to him. But Richards assisted by Tomlinson pretty much nullified that threat.
I read about there bully boy tactics which clearly stem from the manager, often late in the challenge and disrupting play by holding onto the ball for throwing just far enough away not to be get booked.
And then the Sh*thousery of not giving the ball back after we put it out of play for one of their injured players, the manager then blaming the players, claiming he gave instructions too but they ignored him.

Lovely to get a win over a horrible side.

I wonder if they were the same idiots who behaved so badly at last week's Tuesday night game against Weymouth. They were also abusive and provocative towards some Weymouth fans.

Re: Welling

Very good performance and yes Tom was in top form last night and thoroughly deserved MOTM. Disappointed to see the early goal so easily conceded, but always felt like we would get back in it. Ridiculous penalty for the ref to give but I wasn't sorry to see Hamilton subbed although he seemed pretty disgruntled about it. I hope Caine's injury isn't serious - he is turning into quite a find from the Academy and isn't phased playing against older and more experienced opponents.
