3 league wins since September.

I mean, as it stands, we're outside of the relegation places and we have games in hand.

Were we ever winning against Cheshunt? I think not. To me that was a point gained …. with a very very soft penalty.

On December 14th on the "Oxford" thread I wote down my calculations for the rest of the season as follows:

".......My very basic arithmetic says:  27 games left for us to play.  Based on last season's table (when there were  three fewer teams playing )..  you would have  needed 45 points to be safe on a 4 down basis. (Bath on that figure would have been relegated and  Braintree survive only on goal difference). Extrapolating from that, and adding in the extra fixtures  we need to be looking at 52 points or so to be safe this season....  52 points minus the 16 already gained means ... 36 points from 27 games... 1.3 points a game. I'm quite sure this figure or something near to it is on Gary and the Chairman's respective whiteboards..............."

If the above holds true we are now looking at needing 24 points fom 17 games.. so the points requirement hs crept up from 1.3 ppg to 1.4 ppg.  To state the bleeding obvious we probably need to win  6 or more of our remaining games to  stay up. We've  got so close on any number of occasions.  It's frustrating for everybody. I still say all the basics are in place...but that all-round solidity has to be converted into 3 points quite regularly now.  Look at Hungerford   with 2 or 3 recent wins, now right back in the mix... and well done them! We need a RUN .....even just a mini one!

So a team that has so far only managed 6 wins in 29 league matches, now has to produce at least another 6 victories in the remaining 17 games, plus 6 draws.

We weren't great against Cheshunt but we're not going to make those bad defensive mistakes every week and I don't think most teams struggling will have as good as forwards as they had. We've had worse seasons before and gone on a run the last month or so to finish well clear of the dreaded dotted line
