Bath City are submitting a planning application this week for a 3G pitch. Heard a rumour last week that we are no longer going ahead with ours.

Well I for one hope that rumour is true Will. We were talking about this very subject on Saturday before the Braintree game. The initial cost, including what levelling of the slope can be achieved would be considerable . There is no guarantee we could run the facility 7 days a week without a significant number of full time staff being employed, which would include the Blues Bar and refreshment facilities. Moreover, you have to consider Stanley Park will become more available when Forest Green Rovers move to their new stadium, which has a state of the art training facility. People that end of town will have that facility on their doorstep. I don’t wish to be negative but with the above considerations I’m afraid it looks a non starter - sorry.

I hope the club is still progressing with our application. I believe the outlay is quite a lot but in the long run it's the correct thing to do in my opinion. It would mean all our clubs could be based at HP, I guss it all just depends on the overall cost and if we get a grant.
Another thing to note is that Bath want theirs done in the close season, which is the same as us, basically in time for the 2023/24 season so there's a good chance we could be up against them for the funding grant.

I think I’ve said on here before, I’m not a fan of the 3G pitches and I don’t like watching football on them. They look false, they somehow sanitise the football in my opinion and (not that I’m an eco-warrior by any stretch) they can’t be great for the environment. Having said that I totally understand why we will eventually get one (and it will happen) and appreciate completely the commercial angle. It’ll be interesting to see if Bath City get permission and forge ahead this summer. The time frame would be very tight to level their pitch and successfully install a 3G in time for the new season, so perhaps it’ll be good to see how they get on, and learn from their experience.

I heard the same rumour. Escalating costs apparently putting the project beyond our reach.

Perhaps The Voice might be prepared to shed some light on this... if it's likely to go into the public domain, anyway, in due course?
Ive heard that it will either happen at the club or a second one will be built at Stanley Park Sports Ground in corporation with the club. Apparently costs are much bigger than anticipated - Perhaps option two provides the best of both worlds

My thoughts on the 3G pitches pretty much mirror the thoughts of Inside Left. I used to train on the early ones in my playing days. But never really liked them for the main games. They have there purposes, but it’s a different game on the 3G. The Pride and Passion seems to be somehow missing on the plastic pitch 😩⚽️
