Matt McClure

Statement signing. One of the top scorers in the North, let’s hope he can keep up his record with us in the south. Welcome!

Re: Matt McClure

Whilst this is an excellent signing is does concern me slightly.
Out of contract with Gloucester at the end of season so hope we haven’t paid a large fee for him. And also rumoured to be on £1250 a week with them, hope we aren’t paying him that much.

Re: Matt McClure

Cup money being spent to ensure our status in the Conference South. Will definitely be a big earner with bonuses involved, app, goals etc. Let's hope he stays injury free.

Re: Matt McClure

Hopefully, idle rather than mischievous speculation...... JY departs for undisclosed fee onto a 2.5 year contract.. which suggests Yeovil are pretty certain of the value of their acquisition and were prepared to pay a healthy sum for him, especially as at 23 yrs old he hasn't got many miles on the clock. Jordan represented, I presume, pretty much pure profit for CTFC.  In crude commercial terms, we added a massive  amount to his value...to his and our benefit..  Matt McClure I'm guessing , at 31 yrs old and 8 years further on in his career might not command such a fee, but is likely/certain to be high maintenance in terms of weekly wages because of his obvious pedigree. So, perhaps a substantial part of Jordan's fee  becomes MM's wages??

BTW, Does anyone know the length of his contract?

Reading the MM thread on the Gloucester Forum... he couldn't come with much higher praise as a player and captain.  Not only a natural goalscorer but fantastic at holding the ball up as well.  However, as with any striker he is only as good as the service he gets.  He probably won't track back and play acrosss the line like JY did .. so our midfield need to adapt pretty quickly to how he wants and expects delivery There are clearly concerns about his proneness to injury but that's true of so many players and is beyond anyone's control.... unless, of course, he's overplayed... which is unlikely if GH is in charge.  Welcome, Matt. A new chapter opened at a critical time for the Club.

Re: Matt McClure

One of the best signings, if not the best of recent times. A player of Matt’s calibre is a big statement as mentioned. However, I would add that players are human beings and they have human reasons behind their decisions. Don’t think that just because a player of this quality has joined, suddenly Chippenham have become a free spending, cash rich football club. Sometimes, circumstance meets opportunity and we are the beneficiary of that. Let’s forget the commercial aspect for this one and just enjoy the fact that one of the most prolific scorers in non-League football is pulling on our blue shirt this weekend! Congrats to Neil, Gary and the other parties involved in getting this done. Excited is an understatement!

Re: Matt McClure

Although as you state circumstances has met opportunity, the player will be on a very lucrative wage and top earner at HP. I had no doubts regarding our survival prior to the signing, now we look forward to somewhat storming up the league.

Re: Matt McClure

Yes, circumstances may have aligned. Not sure where he’s based but have heard he didn’t want the extended travel in Conference North as he looks towards his life after football.
Also maybe his injuries became more prevalent playing on 4G surface at Gloucester?

Re: Matt McClure

Looks a terrific signing, a proven striker who has scored goals throughout his career, the type of player many of us have been crying out for on here. Let's hope he remains injury free.
Hoping Saturday's game will be on, but that's in doubt?

Re: Matt McClure

Someone I know who works at Bath University said they saw Joe Sharples with an unidentified male on Tuesday afternoon.  This unidentified male was spending time in their Sports Science area for a few hours.

The same unidentified male was then identified by my friend as Matt McClure after seeing the signing picture online - he was wearing the same coat/hat at Bath University earlier that day.

I think the only reason Matt McClure would spend an afternoon at Bath University Sports Science with one of our staff members is to complete a medical before putting pen to paper?  If so, and we have signed him, then I would imagine physically he is in good condition?
