We have played both sides before with mixed results. In 2006 we lost 3-1 at Slimbridge in the 2nd qualifying round. I think they were only a Hellenic League side. They were pretty confident of beating us as allegedly the team had a big bet on beating us and they had brought fireworks to the game to let off afterwards. In 2014 in the first qualifying round we beat then FA Vase holders Sholing 1-0 with a goal from Luke Ballinger. I think we had about 8 or 9 players out injured. I do remember after the game the Newcastle United directors taking off in their helicopters that were parked in Sholing’s car park. They had lost at Southampton and were no doubt back in Tyneside before the Blue Army reached Chippenham.😃

I also attended and remember both games for totally different reasons. The Slimbridge game was a shambles for us, and I remember the dreadful behaviour of Steve Perrin, our keeper at the time, at the final whistle, when he confronted the ref with a torrent of obscenities - I believe he was banned for his behaviour. The Sholing game I also remember the NUFC director’s helicopters parked in a field next to Sholing’s ground - I believe NU got hammered 7-0 by the Saints .

We will find out later as they replay tonight. I would expect Sholing to win, but obviously it is the cup.....
