FT 1-0 Chip. Really good win against a good team. Second best first half and lucky to go in at 0-0 but completely dominated the second half (despite their disallowed goal).
Russe MOTM for me but Hanks, Eddie Jones, Will Richards, Will King and Palmer-Holden all having exceptional games as well.
Made to work for it as they never stopped chasing every ball down but reacted really well to a mediocre first half and started playing some great football. Got in their heads at the end as well which was good to see.

Great to get the first win (and goal!) of the season today. Agree with previous post about dominating the second half. Our strength once again looks to be the back four (whoever plays there) and keeper, with a decent midfield. Well done to all.

We got better as the game went on,who would have thought Russe( smallest man on the pitch) would have scored with a header.Goal certainly lifted the team for last 15 minutes. Will probably need cover for Hamilton who went off injured.Still think we need a 6ft+ striker having seen the size of Chelmsford and Hungerford’s centre half’s.Still nice to get a win under our belt.

Better side by far, Hungerford have a team of workers without any quality. Three points on Monday expected.

I’ve really enjoyed the games so far this season. We’re certainly not the strongest squad in the division. And we probably need a player or two. But the work rate and effort from every player who comes on to the pitch is excellent. There can’t be a team in the division that put more in than we do. Luke Russe typifies the spirit and togetherness in the side with his tireless work rate. Shame to see Hamilton off injured again he’s a player we need playing every week. But it was really good to see him on the pitch at the end punching air after the win. Get back soon Hammy. Gary and Matt have created a great attitude and will to win in the squad. On to Taunton tomorrow they’ve made an ok start. But it’s a game we will be looking to take all three points from. Good luck Gary, Matt and the boys. 😎

Thought we were a bit lucky and could easily have lost 0-3 or more. Early goal mouth scrambles, some great saves by Will and thankfully the lino putting the ref right on the offside rule. But agree we battled on and Russe knicked the winner. One sour note for me was 'the choir' singing homophobic chant and other language not suitable for the CTFC youth guard of honour kids team sitting a few metres away. They need to have a hard look at themselves.

Quite agree “newfan” the choirs choice of songs/chants is a major embarrassment. Yesterday was really sad with so many youngsters sitting near them. It’s high time they were brought to task!
I will probably get criticised by them but it’s got to be stamped out!!!

I wasn’t at the game yesterday. But I see ,you said we were lucky and could’ve lost 3-0 and not really a lot about how well we might’ve played in the second half. I see their keeper got their MOM , am I wrong in thinking he may have pulled off a few saves ?.

Hungerford were a workaday, cloth-cutting side, who are probably always destined to be so, because like us they have quite severe budget restrictions. This didn't stop them dominating the first half, through relentless pressing and harrying, and some neat attacking play that produced 2 or 3 clear-cut chances, including Adam Liddle's , Geoff Hurst-ish thump onto the underside of Will Henry's bar. We didn't quite match their intensity and intent, and looked pretty impotent in the final third. Such are the law of Physics and Sod, it was their off-side "goal" that proved a complete fulcrum in the game. From thereon the game tilted our way and was won courtesy of Luke Russe, who earned the corner from which he headed the winning goal. As we increasingly bossed the second half, so Hungerford's physicality spilled into frustration.. as it did in May, but the game was already gone for them by then... although the Yellow Cards hadn't. Well done our defence, who had to regroup after a major disruption, and who successfully managed their No 25 Jerry Gyebi, who parked his HGV of a body on our goalline for nearly every corner and throw near our goal. Well done the midfield who wrested control of the game from the 50th minute, and well done the 2 or 3 up front, who, given a bit more time and space, posed more and more of a threat as the game progressed. Enjoyed Simon's goal announcement... part American Football touchdown call and part Boxing MC. Couldn't hear any offensive chanting but have made my feelings known on a previous post ( Then . Now .. To Come). Damage family trust in the Match Day TSS experience and we're in trouble.

Led a charmed life in first half but, as mentioned above, we grew into the game and finished much the stronger. Palmer-Holden’s industry deserved a goal and only a couple of great saves denied him - goals will come for him.
The linesman’s flag was very late for their ‘goal’, he seemed to wait until the Hungerford players were all celebrating in the top corner - a baffling trend with the offside law as it stands.
Golding did very well when he came on for Hamilton I thought, though we might need another centre half long term - Minturn back on loan would be great but not sure if that would be possible. Left back is another weakness which needs looking at.
