“Moving with the times”

According to the club website, we are looking towards an artificial pitch in the near future. I suspect that would bring with it the end of our (iconic) slope.

*edit* It would bring with it the end of our slope

Yeah I imagine so, probably have to level it all out

Re: “Moving with the times”

Not a fan of artificial pitches as it will be like watching a game of 5 a-side but can understand the reasons behind the plan. I will miss the slope if it is levelled off.

Re: “Moving with the times”

Not keen on artificial pitches either but mainly for little reasons like it just looking a bit tacky, less enjoyable to play on and I guess just the idea that football should be played on grass.

If the club doesn't have to fund it, it looks like it saves money and therefore lets us continue playing at this level. It's annoying but I guess it may be worth it.

Re: “Moving with the times”

I don't support the proposal. It's going to ruin the stadium forever. Once it's in the playing surface will always be level and if we do well it'll have to be replaced with a grass one. It cost Sutton United over £500,000 to rip theirs up and replace it with grass so they could play in League Two. You might think it's unlikely that Chippenham would get to the level but remember that Sutton United were in the league we're in now only 6 years ago. Two promotions = a massive bill we might not be able to cover.

Probably worth noting that if we were ever in a position where the pitch needed tearing up to play in League 2, that our stadium wouldn’t be up to standard to host league two football anyway. No way you could feasibly build a League 2 standard venue on our footprint. Nice problem to have though, I guess…

Re: “Moving with the times”

Also need to think about long term, as 4g pitches last approx 8-10 years with 40 hrs a week use. So great we get a grant initially but doubt we would again. So another 300-500k in 10 years.
Granted lower maintenance costs though.
All needs thinking about.

Re: “Moving with the times”

Certainly against it but i understand it’s a financial decision that may help the playing budget longer term. I think the slope has helped us over the years and opposition clubs have gone on record stating how difficult it is playing at HP so for me it’s a advantage lost.

Re: “Moving with the times”

The slope is the same for both teams. There's nothing in that argument.

Re: “Moving with the times”

Even though we play on it every other week, train with it, opposition clubs play on it one game in 42.
