Re: Cook

I’ve said before, I’ll say again and I’ll probably say it a thousand times over. Should anyone have any ideas, wish to discuss with me mine that are in the process of being implemented or anything remotely pertinent to our club and how we can improve. I’m happy to sit down for a pint with anyone and chat all things through. You may find the idea is already in the line of execution. The one thing that any project needs is assistance and bodies to help pull off the tasks. I intend on surrounding myself with a good team of volunteers and supporters in order to achieve. As for the manager, both had reasons, more than will likely ever come to public light but Neil has earned our trust, I didn’t agree with Colliers sacking at the time because I was close to Mark and now growing close to Mike over a couple of years, I am sad to see him leave but he had his reasons and I respect them however, CTFC is bigger than a manager and that’s a lesson I’ve learned the hard way over the years! Good luck Mike but to echo previous posters it’s Chippenham that need the support and backing now. Managers do come and go, a lot more infrequent at Chippenham than other places FYI and now it’s time to lend our support to the next man in the hot seat. As Swayne correctly pointed out, there was never much rapport with the majority of supporters, however we as a fan base also didn’t reach out the way we could have done. Lessons are always being learned by all and the next step is a vital, exciting and pivotal one for the club! Let’s make sure we help steer the ship in the right way! UTBB

Mike Cook is well gone and will not be missed. Cannot understand why he was appointed, as he had no interest at all in Chippenham at all.
He seemed a total narcissist, totally lacking charisma, & never really seen him engaging with the fans off his own back.He is the one reason that the 200+ fans are missing from Hardenhuish Park.
Please mister chairman, let the brakes off, give someone who knows the town and proper football a chance, this hyena has not worked & was certainly expensive. Hopefully now more punters, including me, will be back through the gates & shout the team onward & upwards.

Are you for real? Don't take for granted that a club our size (and only recently promoted into this league) will be with fighting to make the playoffs and regularly holding our own against the best sides in the division.

Re: Cook

And I'm sure we'll all fully get behind Horgs for the time being, good audition for him.

My un-realistic and ambitious choice (which you're all free to laugh at) would be Ian Holloway. He lives in Box and has stated publicly that he wants to get back in the game without having move his family, so would only take a job close to home.

Yes he'd cost more, but having a someone like him would surely put at leasr 100 extra people on the gate each week, which might well just cover that jump. He'd also attract sponsors, media and attention, plus football wise he think he'd know what he's doing.

But as I said, unrealistic and ambitious. I'd happily take any up and coming manager who's doing well locally, worked for Hungerford when they took Thatcham's boss.

Re: Cook

Would love to see Horgan get it full time... I think unless there's a change of strategy at the club it'll be a similar coach to Cook ie passing football and youth oriented. I can't see us suddenly going to a direct big and strong style like many in our division given the bigger picture with our academy and good links developed with Swindon

Re: Cook

Everyone has talked about Mike Cook leaving, but has anybody else left with him? Good luck to Gary Horgan, sensible choice given the circumstances.

Re: Cook

4 quick observations amidst a flurry of correspondence:

His Lordship knows nothing of Gary Horgan's potential managerial gifts... but his temporary appointment seems a good, sensible fit. He's under no relegation pressure and can only take this opportunity with both his hands, his head and his heart.  We really can only wish him well, I'm sure.

Totally agree with Spaceraider about us (hopefully) continuing the same style of football.. ie quick passing and movement, plus highly mobile front three.  Don't buy into the big target man argument; it encourages too much hoofing and loose speculative crosses upfield, when things are not working. Definitely NOT the way the U23s play which mirrors the Seniors... speed, counter-attack, press. Swindon Town obviously appreciate our style of play, too. An important link.

Nostalgic note:  Before his ennoblement to the Green benches at the Palace of Westminster in a distant, much earlier life His Lordship was a teacher of English at Sir Bernard Lovell School Oldland Common  Bristol.  One of the many fine young members of his first Tutor Group ( Aylward House if he recalls) was a young sprig called Ian Holloway. Delightful young man from an even more delightful family.  Although I was his Tutor, I did not have the task of teaching him English !! (Probably to the benefit of us both!)

Quite an entrance "Monkton Blue":.. Cook as a "narcissist, and  "hyena" "with no interest in Chippenham at all" ; you certainly know how to raise the quality and tone of discussion on the Forum.  As is often the case, sadly, some pretty poisonous and intemperate posts tell you everything about the person posting, at the same time  casting  no light at all on the subject they are foaming at the mouth about. For historical accuracy and record I was called a "TWAT" and a "Cnut" after my first post, so I think you've got off lightly. Sticks and stones!

A quick look at the club website management page shows Horgs as the sole remaining coach, alongside a physio and kit man.

Re: Cook

Well I’m not going to turn the screw any more than it already has.
I am a Cambridge fan so I wanted him to succeed! He was a Cambridge player!
I use to go most Saturday’s last season! After the cup exits and the Bath home game; I said enough is enough!  TBH I’m really pleased I stood by that decision!
I don’t know Mr Horgan, but I expect an immediate response!
I might actually consider seeing a game before the end of the season!

Re: Cook

Couple of points. Firstly re suggestions on how to get crowds up. Communication  or in our case the lack of it.For as long as I can remember it has been a topic that has been raised on here many times. You don’t expect to be told of the inter workings of the club but I’ve lost count of the number of times you turn up for a match and wonder where certain players are only to find out that they have left the club. And that’s by word of mouth rather than anything official.case in point on Saturday no one knew who the heck our goalkeeper was! Bit bad when you don’t even know whose in your team. Perhaps making fans feel more a part of the club would go some way to getting attendances up and communicating what is going on would be a step forward.
Secondly academy players. About 13 of them registered for the first team but only one or two have been given any sort of run. With so many why recently have we been unable to fill the bench? Was it the manager’s decision not to play them or a financial reason? If l was an academy player seeing loan players coming in the same age or younger than they are must be very disheartening and wonder how many of the better ones will hang round next season. Great pity if budget cut as will surely need to rely more on such players next season. Given that relegation is highly unlikely and the playoffs unrealistic give some of them a chance in the games remaining and see how they get on.
