Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium

The Board recently unanimously decided that in recognition of the immeasurable and sustained support provided by Chairman, Neil Blackmore, his wife, Jane, and their family since assuming the Chairmanship of the Club, that Hardenhuish Park should in future be known as the Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium.

There is no doubt that the unwavering and significant backing of the Club by the Blackmore family since their involvement has played a pivotal role in the Club’s progression from the Southern League to its current National League South status and the Board considers the Club fortunate to have a Chairman prepared to invest and contribute to the degree he does to see the Club move forward both on and off the pitch.

He has a clear vision of the direction of the Club’s travel as it endeavours to consolidate itself at this level and is keen to achieve success.

The Board believe its decision is entirely appropriate and one which we hope recognises the outstanding contribution the Blackmores have made over time.

We hope you, the supporters, will endorse the Board’s decision and likewise recognise and acknowledge the outstanding commitment to Chippenham Town FC the Blackmore family have shown.

Re: Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium

A Fantastic thing to do. For a great couple who have pushed this club to where it is today.   And I know they want to take us further. Thank you both Neil and Jane for all you have done and continue to do.  A lovely couple.  I think every Chippenham fan will endorse the proposal.  😎

Re: Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium

Sadly I don't. Of course like all supporters I appreciate how far we've come since Blackmore has taken charge of the club, but surely the name of the ground is sacred? It does seem a little opportunistic given the TV cameras will be at the ground in less than two weeks.

Re: Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium

I'm not for it either to be honest.

At the very least I'd have dropped the Ltd bit from the name.

Re: Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium

There is a reason behind every action. Given Neil's guidance so far has led us to our highest ever position in the football pyramid, a record equalling FA Cup Round 1 appearance and countless other successful ventures within the club as a whole, I would be inclined to trust the decision of the board. Neil isn't a vanity man, there is no personal gain to this and often quite shy's away from the attention given to him in the position so I would absolutely suggest there is a reason for the proposal and a reason why Neil who has ultimate say so, would allow this to go through unopposed.

Of course also if this is an opportunistic approach with the camera's coming down in a couple of weeks, why not I guess? Neil has ploughed significant money through the football club and with very few benefits these days to doing so in football, has always had the demeanour of a smiling chairman with plenty to say and do around the club. I for one wouldn't begrudge that little bit of exposure should it be the reason, but personally I don't think it would be.

Either way, the board are in place to make these choices for the club and it is our responsibility to back them and get behind the initiatives put in place to succeed under their guidance.

Fortress Thornbury Surfacing Stadium it is then people ;)

Re: Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium

Drop the ‘Ltd’ and I’m sold. ‘Thornbury Surfacing Stadium’ sounds much better.

Initially I was a little upset by it but we’ll all refer to it as Hardenhuish anyway.

Re: Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium

I think the LTD does have to go, makes it a hell of a mouthful for three little letters. For some reason The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium does sound a little more polished.

Personally I don't hate change. I just really hope that this is the start of something. Hardenhuish Park has literally just celebrated it's 100th birthday and now we have made a fairly bold change as a club to change the name of the stadium. I hope this means that Chippenham Town FC are now to embrace a host of changes to little things that will allow the club to flourish.

The name of the stadium changing can now be the catalyst for a more modernised and forward thinking Chippenham Town as Neil continues to spearhead to football club into consolidation in the National League South and on to the better times as a club that we have become accustomed to through his and the board's hard work.

Fortress Thornbury Surfacing Stadium ;)

Re: Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium

Much as I appreciate the support from the Chairman and his business and he is deserving of our gratitude - in the year we celebrate 100 years history of the club at Hardenhuish Park with a book just published about this, IMHO its a huge PR gaffe to change the name to a corporate sponsored title alone.

"Thornbury Surfacing's Hardenhuish Park"  would have been better maybe if the Board wants to recognise the (increasing?) contribution more formally. Personally I hate "Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium."

I'll still turn up to all the home games I can with my season ticket though whatever the place is called officially

Re: Thornbury Surfacing Ltd Stadium

I would just stick with "The Thornbury Surfacing Stadium" as it's official recognised title. Let's be honest aside from on Google and the little yellow stripe at the bottom of next weeks BBC covered highlights show. Most people will refer to it as Hardenhuish Park anyway, personally I have never called in Hardenhuish Park in casual conversation and for some reason always referred to it as "The Town Ground" I guess it takes all comers but as mentioned in a previous post, there has to be a reason for it and as you've said Newfan, it won't stop me attending games whatever they elect to call the ground we play on..
