Gloucester City

I know we don't play them anymore but interesting article on the BBC website prior to their cup match this week:

Reportedly losing £200k a year!

Re: Gloucester City

Meadow Park used to quite an intimidating place to go and play football, there is still some footage crawling around YouTube of our last game there I believe, an FA Cup fixture which resulted in defeat for us. I remember getting set upon once by a load of their "fans" after Chippenham supporters attempted to take up a position in their "T End" to watch a half of the game from the usual place behind the goal Chippenham were attacking. Women and Children being abused whilst several people in Yellow and Black tried to give it the big one throwing insults and rubbish towards the Chippenham supporters who remained and those who sought after the safety of another part of the ground. Stories like that make it harder for some to empathise but personally I think no one deserves to lose their ground, for so many it's more than a pitch. When I go back to HP it's like a beacon drawing me to my place of birth and the connection with my hometown and past that is far more important than just football. I would hate to think that there could be a time when I couldn't rock up to HP on a Saturday and take in a game of football but that is the reality that faces more and more supporters sadly, with big money controlling the game and hard working volunteers and local businessmen keeping grassroots football afloat single handed. I personally hope Gloucester do make it home one day. As for the guy moaning about a 50 mile round trip for home games... Come back when its 202.6 plus the standard breakfast stop but I guess you can't help what you fall in love with!

Re: Gloucester City

A fascinating story on the above link about Gloucester City's situation, and as always excellent input from the Voice. I remember that day very well when the heavy rains came. I had been made redundant a few weeks prior to that day, but could not start a new job I had been offered in Bristol because of delays with security clearance, so I did a Kleen-eze round to at least pay a few bills. That particular day I was trawling catalogues around Cepan Park South in town, and was aware of the sky getting darker and darker. I decided to get back to the car and decided to pay good old Arthur Wimble (remember dear old Arty ?) at Hardenhuish Park. 6 hours later we were both still at the Club sheltering from the tempest ! Never did finish that Kleen-eze round !

Here is the footage from 2003 at Meadow Park, some old faces to spot here including a very young Terry Kington on a rare away trip looking lovely as always is his white Chippenham shirt lol  [/url]
