Wealdstone v Chippenham programme Aug 13

Hi Bluebirds fans! Tim here from the Stones programme- as in past years I’m keen to make our match day prog as inclusive as ever. If anyone, young or old( or in between) would like to share their views on Chippenham’s hopes and aspirations for 2019-20, please drop me an email to tim.fparks@gmail.com and I’ll print your views. Thanks!

Re: Wealdstone v Chippenham programme Aug 13

In a season where the NLS is more competitive than I feel it has been in a great many years, the aspirations of even the most optimistic Chippenham fan has to once against be comfortable survival in the league and as always hope for a little run in the lucrative cup competitions. We have made significant signings some of which you'll be all to familiar with Tim in Dave Pratt and Rhys Tyler with the manager clearly looking to add experience and a little bit of quality to an already strong squad. We have lost a few players over close season with Greg Tindle, Nick McCootie and Jack Compton all leaving the club for pastures new and most noticeably Josh Smile (Last season's Supporters player of the year) leaving to join Maidenhead in the National League. Our squad is shaping up very nicely with a very strong back four that I can see being very stingy on their day and options up top that most in the league would be envious of. If Nat Jarvis can find his way to goal the way he did last season, coupled with the introduction of Dave Pratt back to the fold and Luke Hopper's addition, goals won't be too hard to come by at Hardenhuish this year. Manager is still on the prowl for additions to the squad so I would expect by the time we touch down for the game at Wealdstone we may have a few new faces to add to the mix. All in all very excited for the new season. I'm going for a 10th place finish this year in my head, my heart says an outside stab at maybe 7th should we put together a good run of results and stay injury free. Top gaffer, top coach in Gary and if the lads can respond well to the challenges in front of them this year, I think we will have a lot to cheer about in the 2019/2020 season!!

Re: Wealdstone v Chippenham programme Aug 13

Good post Voice, full of passion and optimism as always. I think the Management Team have recruited sensibly based on what budget they have available, but my concern is midfield. Every close season I have a 'wish list' of who we might go for. I'm a big admirer of Tom Smith, the ex Swindon Town and Cheltenham Town player, and I was gutted to learn that he has signed for our wonderful neighbours down the A4. I know he would be way out of our league budget wise, but I think that is the sort of battling midfielder we need to complement the squad. I still have nightmares the way he pulled us apart last season, and the season before. Another player who has always caught my eye is Matt Liddiard up at Supermarine. Another battler in midfield who could do a job for us. I can always dream !!  COYMB

Don't forget young Youseff from Forest Green Voice, Toyboy as for Liddiard didn't cut it at Glos in Conf North or South. Watched him at Swindon, playing as centre back now.

Re: Wealdstone v Chippenham programme Aug 13

Cheers Toyboy I like yourself have been a big admirer of a few players that our noisy neighbours had on their books last season. Judging from the exodus of those players to clubs at the same level or slightly higher it would seem that they really caught the attention of the masses, be interested to see how they line up this year without Cundy, Straker and a lot of the important loan signings that appear to be returning to parent clubs. Don't know much about Youssef, Blueboo, but if Mark has bought the guy in clearly got to have a little something about him, hopefully we will get to see this in pre season and beyond. I think our midfield doesn't lack quality perhaps just a little depth. Josh Smile was huge for us last term and I think he needs replacing with a touch of quality in that middle, the man who can unlock a defence with a pass and put the killer ball into what will be a very combatant attacking threat, possibly someone from my wish list Fabian Robert at Gloucester. He demonstrates those same skills with his passing, he is physically quite strong and great with the ball at his feet going past players. Obviously Gloucester would not be keen to let him go and that might pose a little dilemma. Cane and Pope from Weston have surfaced at Hereford I believe and I heard a little whisper they were being looked at by a lot of clubs local, wonder if we were one of them? All I know is that I have complete faith is this management team. They have delivered on every promise and expectation since coming to the club and with CTFC becoming an increasingly attractive place to play football, I expect to see the faces appear before the season kicks off at St Albans. I am already itching to get going.
