Pitch

I was at Chippenham Tennis club yesterday and it was evident that work has started to sort out the pitch at the football club. A tractor was towing some sort of scarifier or power rake with the debris being dumped into a towed trailer along side.

Re: Pitch

I called into the ground on my way home from work yesterday, and certainly the pitch has been well and truly scalped ! Nigel the grounds-man, who also looks after the pitches at Stanley Park, will be overseeing the growing process over the Summer. His concern is irrigating the pitch over the Summer, because if we get another dry one, such as last year, our little sprinklers will not be adequate enough. The contractors will be at the ground for the remainder of this week carrying out the numerous processes to aid growth, and after that we leave it to nature to take it's course, and Nigel's magic !

Re: Pitch

Sound like the perfect type of project that the fans could help contribute to by some form of fundraising activity.

Its something that the fans would see and could have a direct impact on.....Just saying

I agree with this. I'm not sure how much a sprinker system costs though.

Re: Pitch

The Club has the necessary sprinklers but it is simply down to the cost of using mains water. The large tank holds enough water to spray the whole pitch but only for about 15 minutes in each segment. Using mains water costs in the region of £300 per application! These sprinklers also need a person or persons to move the spray unit every 15 minutes to one of about 10 or more places around the pitch.
Ideally we need a good wet summer to avoid having to use mains water but that would mean us all suffering from the lack of sun! The Club can't win.

Re: Pitch

Might be worth investing in a larger tank? I'm sure you could just add an extension to the current tank.
Might also be worth asking for volunteers to move the sprinkler, i live within walking distance of the ground and would be happy to help out.
Shame we can't tap into the stream an pump the water up.

A licence from the Environment Agency will probably be required!

Re: Pitch

Open the bar every day and then we can all help sprinkle (;->)
