After nine months of slog etc I do wonder how fair the National League were in their decision not to extend the season. In effect that decided promotion and relegation issues. East Thurrock United were forced to play six games in the final two weeks. Of the three midweek matches two were away, at Wealdstone and Havant. The fifth of those matches saw them lose 6-1 to Havant who thus improved their goal difference which until then was behind Dartford’s. As both teams went into the final game of the season with a chance of winning the league Havant scored a last minute winner to finish level on points with Dartford but finish with a better goal difference of three. East Thurrock’s final match saw them host Hungerford Town who had lost their previous six games. Hungerford won meaning they were saved from relegation at Poole’s expence. What ever your opinion of the teams involved it does seem tough that it boiled down to East Thurrock’s mini end of season marathon. Feel for Dartford who today were beaten 1-0 by Braintree in play off semi.

Poole's last day opponents Oxford City also played four games (Saturday-Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday) the last three all away. All the ifs and buts across the season are irrelevant, it is what it is. If you start the final day in the bottom three more often than not you are going down and over 42 games not the last handful probably deserve to..At the top end of the table the bigger issue is having play-off places down to 7th, virtually a third of the league.

In 2010 we faced all of the top four in eight days in the final week (sat-sun-tues-sat - and three away I think)... can anyone remember how many points we got?

And did we play (and beat) Cambridge again in the playoffs?
Incredible last couple of weeks that was. Possibly the proudest I've been as a Chippenham fan before last season's title.

Iam sure it was Hendesford we beat in playoff semi final 2-0 at home, sammy Alison running through late on getting the second.
Then meeting nuneaton again on the Saturday , the rest is history.
Yep sounds about right, Sammy's goal after their keeper went up for a injury time corner.

Braintree Town, who finished sixth in the league, and therefore benefitted from the new play off system, beat Hampton and Richmond on penalties to win promotion back to National League.
