Re: Mingsy

I believe he has been offered a contract but I don't think he has signed it yet.

I assume it will happen though?

It's great to see a youngster having been released by a professional club, roll his sleeves up and find another opportunity, when others may have thought that their professional dream was over.

Well done Mingsy, well deserved. I hope Mingsy Sr. is proud!

Not so good for us though .

Is he on contract?

Will we get a fee?

From Ipswich Town site

Town have agreed a deal to sign teenage defender Tyrone Mings from non-League side Chippenham Town.

The 19-year-old began his career alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the Southampton youth team, before moving into non-League with Yate Town and then Chippenham, where he played alongside side Russell Osman's son, Toby.

Mings played for Town in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Nike Academy on Monday and caught the eye of manager Mick McCarthy.

The 6’3† defender is equally capable of playing as a left-back or at centre-half and is available for selection immediately, once the relevant paperwork has been processed.

Re: Mingsy

IPSWICH Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed it took him just five minutes to decide to snap up Chippenham Town defender Tyrone Mings.

Mings, 19, was today in Suffolk with father Adie, the former Bluebirds boss, finalising his shock move to the Championship side after impressing McCarthy in a behind-closed-doors reserves match for the Tractor Boys on Monday.

Left-back Mings, who can also play in central defence was drawn to McCarthy's attention because Toby Osman, the son of Ipswich legend Russell, is a teammate of the youngster at Hardenhuish Park.

McCarthy told the Ipswich Evening Star: "He played in the reserve game the other day – we’re going to sign him.

“Russell (Osman) and Steve McCall watched him, we invited him to come in and play and he did well.

“He came through Southampton’s academy – he’s not somebody who’s just suddenly emerged and that helps. I was really pleased with him on Monday.

“We’ll see how well he does. I’ve only seen him for an hour and 10 minutes, but I decided after five minutes that I wanted him.â€

Re: Mingsy

All the very best to him - I suspect not on a contract so no cash but that is the way of the game now at our level. Maybe Adie will be able to swing a friendly if we ask hime nicely?

Re: Mingsy

Yes pre season friendly as part of the deal, didn't we have that with Walsall once ;-)

Re: Mingsy

Good luck to Mingsy Jnr, seems that Ipswich pipped Hereford to his signature.

Here's wishing him a long and successful career and that the money we save on his wages will be well spent

Except Walsall couldn't fit us in pre-season and so visited us in October instead, and treated a very thin crowd to an absolutely pointless match.

Re: Mingsy

Anybody know if Tyronne is in contention to be in their squad on Saturday?

They are away to Leeds Utd! Who I think had a look at Adie at one point in the 90's?
