Always been big away followings every season though?
As for going down, it would for a little bit as the chances are we would win more games but that novelty would soon wear off. Big thing in my opinion is the lack of online presence and using that moving forward. Next to that, the next best thing is give free tickets and get them to spend money in the ground, but when you contract out your food provision (terrible quality too!) you lose that opportunity to make it worthwhile.
I would guess if you looked at all clubs from The Championship down to our level that have been mid table and safe with minimal drama either way, that the attendances stagnate. However, from what I see the one thing that we do have in our favour is a thriving youth section now. I see more and more junior players at the ground in kit, so this only bodes well for the future but that impact will take years to ripple through.

Personally I think we have seen bigger away following this season, especially those outside of the ‘Big’ clubs I.e Torquay, Yeovil, Bath etc..
Eastbourne, Dorking, Enfield, Salisbury Maidstone, Weymouth, Weston have all brought decent numbers this season.
A thriving youth section yes, that will drift away when they have to pay and Dad has to stump it £17
