Re: Calne tonight

Entertaining 3 nil victory with chipp running out winners 3 nil. Chipp created plenty of chances in first half.
Penalty's from Griffin and Guthrie in each half,I think Griff got the other

Re: Calne tonight

Agree with Frank. Griff did indeed get the other. The way they played was probably more important than the result. Good passing football mostly on the deck with good moments of individual skill. Thought the first penalty was a tad harsh on Calne but the second fair enough! Seemed a good all round team spirit on display and the new faces made some excellent contributions throughout. Some will say it was only Calne (patronisiing in the extreme) and it may be that Oxford City on Saturday will provide a more challenging test. A couple of scary defensive errors apart (one where Calne might have scored from a good first half header that wasn't far away), this was a decent performance and encouraging......

Re: Calne tonight

agree - new defender Conor McCormack looked like a good find (his runs caused both penalties) - how he copes with sterner opposition will be interesting

Second goal was nice interplay between Griff and Bally

Re: Calne tonight

Agree with all the above posts and the performance last night was a huge improvement on Saturday's dreadful display at Supermarine. However, I still think our biggest problem will be putting the ball in the back of the net. Griff and Phillo are too similar in style, hence I guess why Mark started with Griff and Omar up front last night. Certainly Omar looks the part with bags of running and speed to burn, but the end product still needs fine tuning I feel. The new guy who we have signed from Cambridge Utd (his name escapes me) looked very usefull when he came on late in the game, so perhaps that could be another option up front. All in all an entertaining game, but when Brian Smith does not play there is a definite missing link between defence and midfield. In my view he will be key in creating opportunities for the midfield and forward's next season.

Re: Calne tonight

Good performance and a pretty entertaining match. Also want to say how nice it is to see us playing in yellow, I wouldn't mind seeing it make a return as our away kit this season. Better than the fluorescent jacket green we had last season.
