Thought that would make a few sit up
Here's an idea.
A previous thread has alluded to playing budgets and how supporters help out. I haven't a clue what our total playing budget is but I do know that we're struggling to attract another quality striker as we can't match what other clubs are offering. If we're serious about making an impact this season we need goals. All it needs is 10 supporters pledging £3 per week (that's right, we only need another £30) and we'll have a decent chance of getting a quality striker in. Or 30 supporters pleging just £1 per week! Even better. What do you reckon? Up for it? Presumably this could be arranged via the Supporters Club so maybe they can take this up and run with it? Something needs to be done - we're strong all over the park except up front. COYB.

I have to say that seeing well known quality strikers signing for our rivals, this initiative does sound novel and interesting, and I am very happy to help in any way I can. Sadly in this current footballing climate, players seemed to be swayed by being offered an extra £20 or £30 a week to sign for someone who may not necessarily be their first choice, but essentially just going there for the money. The manager is clearly trying to recruit players who will remain loyal to CTFC and build a squad to climb the SPL, and I applaud this approach. So anything we supporters/volunteers can do to assist the club, I am fully supportive of your suggestion Insideleft. Come on you Bluebird fans, whose next to say YES to this excellent idea ?

Sounds good to me I am up for this if it goes ahead

Count me in too, lets hope for good response.

I think most genuine supporters would put in a few quid a week, if it meant the potential of getting a 20 goals a season striker into the club. A very good idea but it needs to move quickly a few more names on here committing would be great

Good idea, but i think it was done maybe 8 -10 years ago by the supporters club using a bucket collection? It would need to be conditional ie that the money was to be used only to facilitate the procurement of striker.

Question: Why should any money raised only be used to buy/pay for a striker?
What's needed is something like the Weymouth Fantasy Football scheme, where £8 out of every £10 pound contributed per month, goes to the playing budget. The remaining £2 goes into the prize money pot. Weymouth aim to get 200 people playing Fantasy Football, with the hope of raising about £400 per month. If we could encourage about 100 supporters to sign up, then Mark C would have an extra £200 pm to play with. He could use it as he wishes; not just for a striker. It's not a massive amount, I agree, but it's a start.
Just an idea!
