This was a very good workman like performance, against a decent Oxford side. The shape of the side looked good throughout. Tindall & Coups are starting to form a good partnership in the centre of the defence, with Coups being the organising voice that Chippenham have badly lacked in the past. A first half penalty from Alan Griff was enough to win the game. The new lads are starting to settle in and understand what Mark & Tom expect from them, with Conor McCormack and Omar Simpson both showing real pace and power. In the second half Bally had a great chance to make it 2-0 but fired just wide after bursting clear. Oxford pushed hard for an equaliser in the last 20 minutes but the defence held together well with players doubling up and backing each other up where required. Kent Kauppinen in goal was his athletic self pulling off a couple of very good saves to keep the clean sheet. All in all a good performance and huge step up from the poor performance the week before against Supermarine.

Funny how people see it. For me this had worrying moments of past home perfomances where we've struggled aimlessly to achieve. Central players not providing enough support up front and precious few attempts on goal throughout the 90 mins. Griff's first half penalty after he was brought down by the keeper gave us a first half edge but in the second Oxford looked marginally stronger and in the last twenty minutes but for Kent and all hands to the defence, had opportunities to equalise and/or snatch a win. Of four in two games, three have been penalties and also of those four, Griff has scored three which may suggest we lack scoring power in" normal" play. Yes the new players are settling in but early days yet.........

I felt in general that it was a very workmanlike performance considering the heat, but it also highlighted that we need a proven goalscorer/chance take to feed off either Griff or Phillips. Having watched the woefull performance at Supermarine the previous Saturday, it is clear that Griff and Phillo cannot play together as they are too similar. I'm sure that Mark and Tom realise this, so hopefully they will give young Ben Pring a chance in the remaining friendlies, as well as look for new blood up front. Come on you Bluebirds.

Before being able to form any conclusion re Griff and Phillips playing together I need to see them on the pitch at the same time - the 2 games I have seen Phillips has replaced Griff. Griff at least looks very sharp. Good performance Saturday but agree that we lack a cutting edge. Wonder if Lewis Powell fancys a step back up? He and Griff were a very effective partnership!
