Re: winter sacked

I think your find its Mark Collier. Agreed thou! He will bring in good young players and give current players every chance to impress. Success is not an over night thing in football but Collier would definitely bring that to the club.

Re: winter sacked

Guess who. Two of the players you mentioned for not giving up are from Bristol! Make up your mind? It's not about where the players are from its about their capabilities and the direction they are given.
Whoever comes in it won't be a quick fix so be prepared for more pain before it gets better.

Re: winter sacked

Normally read on here from a distance but after reading some of the comments, couldn't stay away. A few things to ponder;

1 - what and where is the route of the problem?

Is it budget? Not enough paid to get the players in, well if so we are on a downward spiral. If they are less than average players and we keep losing, in turn the crowds plummet therefore reducing the budget further?

Solution - the board and fans actively drive the attendances up stating that if we back the club with bums on seats that increased revenue goes back into the playing budget! Many different schemes that we could implement.

2 - style of football

We play like a stereotypical southern league team, no surprises for the opposition. We all know our problems defensively so in the teams mind they know they will concede therefore feeling the pressure to take opportunities and when we don't one goal goes in against us and confidence is so brittle we self destruct.

Solution - bring somebody in a little bit different to what is out there, if the board are able to find such a person? Someone with new ideas and who will breathe fresh air into the club. My preference would be someone who will release the shackles and let the boys play with freedom (it can't get much worse). We as fans would have to be patient and I know we already have but even more so in this scenario. I don't like losing but if we are trying to win in the right manner then I can tolerate it as opposed to the long ball route recently applied. Collier is a safe option in my opinion and I have to say that the two posts above both backing him with first time posts is a bit suspicious, Maybe I'm wrong! Each to their own but a different approach needed in my opinion.

3 - what players are available?

With little money in the pot we are led to believe, how can we find the players needed. Loan players yes but most of the best are already taken so we are left with throwing money at sub standard loan players or players that are unattached. Is this the type of player we need to turn our fortunes around?

Solution - bring somebody in who will get the best out of what we have already got, new ideas often does that. Somebody with a long term plan, that is realistic with his targets and what he has at his disposal.

4 - how long do they get per week to put things right?

With games thick and fast at this time, two games per week and cup matches, how hard was SW's job to make a difference. With games sat/tues/sat/wed/sat/tues how much did the team train in that time and work on things. It's hard to put things right in games and a team talk isn't going to make them defend better. The work is on the training ground, I'm guessing they did 1 session per week for an hour and a half. That's 3hours of matches and only 90 mins of training. I'm not defending SW, impossible to after going away. What was he thinking? Can only think he felt safe after the two wins.

5 - last point, why would we take the risk this weekend of going to Bognor with the chairman and senior players running the team. I am sure we need the prize money? How long have the board known that SW wasn't up to it, surely they have an idea of who they want. We can't be interviewing again, that could be another few weeks. Get the new man in and see if he can lift us for the cup Saturday and maybe get a shock?

Would be interested in your thoughts?

Re: winter sacked

Training only takes place at Stanley park so not able to practice set plays etc - to protect pitch yet now have 3 teams using it ! Priority of first team seems to have been lost somewhere along the way. No way chairman should be involved in team selection I am afraid especially as has no football pedigree. If Collier the man he is strong enough to get the best out of current players he wants to keep and bring in fresh blood. I could go on an on but let's see what happens next , the squad is not strong enough st the moment and easy for the chairman to have a pop at the players but offer them and the supporters support and solutions to the current predicament

Re: winter sacked

Correct Johnjo that was my first post. I am responding to the title of winter sacked after all it did make the BBC sport website!!
For the record i am a Collier fan. No shame in that....I mean lets look at the facts here.... Excellent CV, he has kept teams up with hardly any budget and even got teams promoted with small budgets, stats dont lie! The guy is a good manager and will bring in Tom Jones one of the best local coaches around.

I would like to pick up on your point of Collier being a safe choice....... Yes your right and thats exactly what he will do for Chippenham.. keep them safe!

I hope the club do the right thing. Look forward to seeing you all Saturday!
