Divided we stand...

Hypothetical situation.

Chippenham Town get off to a 'mare in the southern league whilst Chippenham Park go on a winning run the with names like Devizes, Calne and Corsham to come to Hardenhuish park then win thier first couple of Vase games.

Impact on the 'bigger' club?

Re: Divided we stand...

No response? perhaps you were one of the 150 who watched the 'Park game on Tuesday? - Read that again. 150 for a team that didnt exist until recently. There are clubs in that league who would kill for an attndance figure like that.

What percentage of that attendance is CTFC core? How long until they decide get thier football fix for half the price of the big team? Does it matter?  Any thoughts?

Re: Divided we stand...

This is purely hypothetical considering that CTFC's season hasn't even started. At our level success is more dependent on effort, organisation and individual performances than the leagues above. Just because a side in our league has more technical players than us, doesn't mean they'll necessarily work as hard and produce the results.

My guess is that Park's elevated crowd was partly due to the fact that the Cinderford friendly match had been moved back to Friday night, and so there were a significant number of supporters accustomed to spending their Saturday afternoon at a football match who felt it was worthwhile to attend.
I really don't want to be negative about Park though. They're still definitely worth watching and I'm very happy to hand my money over to watch them play.

Re: Divided we stand...

Been to both of Park's league games and posted on here about them. Enjoyed both and intend to continue to follow them. Decided initially not to repond to your original post george as a matter of discretion. Suffice to say after many years as a season ticket holder I have decided not to buy one this time.
No doubt a decision will have to be reached at somepoint as to whether i can afford the cost and time to attend a minimum of 2 football matches per week. it could all come down to a perception of value for money and i belive this is what you were looking for someone to say when you posted. I have in the past been frequently accused of veiwing the activities of my choosen favorite football team  through "Rose coloured spectacles" and have been prepared to support the town through thick and thin. After all as I have often said in the past being a supporter comes with no guarantee of success and if I wanted that I would follow a sterile top of the table Premier league side. I choose to follow "real football". Now however I sure that I would be considered to be of a negative dispostion and it is true that there currently is a lot that I am unhappy about.
In a previous post I stated that that coming to the start of the new season I was very concerned at our lack of resources however that I would also be delighted to be proven wrong. Hopefully this will be the case at 16.50 tomorrow afternoon. In conclusion - I am not Frank!

Re: Divided we stand...

Thanks folks. I'm not mischeif making, I just have an uneasy feeling that the park link could prove catastrophic for the host club. maybe I've misjudged it and we are chippenham supporters rather than supporters of convenience. Personally, I've been to watch other teams in the 2 years since I departed the town, but I just can't get into it. Conversely 90 minuites at Totton and I was buzzing again.

See how it pans out!

Re: Divided we stand...

I view the Park link as nothing but positive. If they attract a big crowd that will have a knock on effect in the bar, food outlets etc. They are providing three first team squad members this season - and the aim is for more in the future.
It may also prove useful for any first team player returning from a long injury/lack of form to turn out for Park instead of the likes of Calne

Re: Divided we stand...

I certainly think that there's a fair few of our supporters who really enjoy watching Western League football and if anything, have actually missed their trips to Calne, Melksham, Devizes etc. For them the switch will be an easy one to make regardless of how the first team are performing.

Re: Divided we stand...

I too have watched both Chippenham Park's home games and enjoyed both. Previously when our little group didn't go to away games ( and been going less and less in the last season or so partly due to cost and partly due to the rubbish you were expected to watch) we would find a local western league game to go to. So problem solved about what game to go to when not watching CTFC it will be Chippenham Park not at the expense of CTFC but other local teams.
