Without too much disrespect to those selected, this was surely the weakest starting X1 i've seen in a long time. Was it injury, illness, unavailabilty or what ? We had far too many key players missing. Chesham looked really vulnerable for the first 10 minutes. We gained 3 early corners, each of which we squandered... once by trying to play it short and embarrassingly losing the ball in doing sol! Pretty unforgiveable.!.... And then 2 successive corners, when despite having Chukwu & Touray, 2 of the tallest men on the pitch, the ball was delivered flat, nowhere near them, and easily cleared. Even more unforgiveable, really. We have a tendency to overcomplicate things which imight just work with quality players but not with players with limited technical competence. it just looks naff. Example: the silly free kick we had just outside their area
Chesham then scored out of the blue from a terrific bending shot and we appeared to crumple.... all our obvious limitations exposed... and without anyone to take a grip on us and lead from the front. Our one creative force on the pitch, Tom Mehew, was battling alone to try to give us some quality.. but those around him just couldn't raise their game and we sank into a humiliating 4-0 deficit at half time . Despite the game having gone, Freddie did at least introduce some order and leadership on the pitch in the second half... although I would have given Callum Wood my MoTM . He was one of of our very few bright lights... calm, decisive in the air and thoroughly deserving of his consolation goal.
This was desperately poor fare. I can only assume the players that started for us was a selection forced on the management team and not as a result of some bizarre choice. Chesham were a very ordinary side who we should have beaten. Scratching around for optimism... i still believe that if we can put together our strongest starting X1 .. ie the one that took points off Worthing and Slough... we can claw our way out of this... But the "ifs" are stacking up and not turning into "whens"...at the moment, anyway.

The game was as depressing as the weather, and all the optimism of our mini revival around the Christmas/New Year period has sadly disappeared. Granted we were missing some key players - Haines suspended, Phillips injured, Fleet unwell I was told - but that first half was unacceptable. It’s hard to see how we can somehow survive now, so it’ll be interesting to see how things pan out with next season in mind. I’m not sure a few of those in a blue shirt yesterday are up to Southern Prem standard let alone National South.
Good to see Freddy back though, how we’ve missed him.

I completely understand that we were missing three key players yesterday but our first half display was simply garbage!
For a season and a half home supporters have in the main been forced to watch totally negative football. We have forked out recently for a big, strong centre forward and we still insist on faffing around and not getting crosses into the box where it matters. Our inability to take decent corners speaks volumes.
In my opinion our player recruitment prior to the start of this season had been poor. Bringing in young players with no experience at National South level is glaring obvious. They might have scored goals at steps three etc but it just isn’t the same.
What is also missing is one or two players with experience at step one to guide and add muscle to our squad. It worked when TS was manager and would have worked well now. Relying on academy players to fill the gaps just doesn’t work.
Time is running out to change course on the field.

Agree totally with chippy.
The mentality these days around the club is an (underwhelming and poorly set up / coached) Development FC 1st team rather than a competitive team who leave everything out there and give the paying follower something to get behind. Watch their first goal on the highlights as a snapshot of how poor it is, really summing up the state of affairs - sloppy pass, players jogging back in a daze, half hearted challenges and its game over. There is absolutely nothing there. And that is on both the management and boards watch.
