Ebbsfleet (H)

On the basis that they dominated the game for pretty much the full 90, I think it's fair to say that Ebbsfleet are the best team to have been to the TSS this season.  Reminded me  bit of  Swindon in the Pre-season game  ( and similar red and white kit, too).  They stifled us and were ruthless in execution. All very professional.

It shouldn't really need to dampen our mini revival too much... although Dorking up next is a tough gig to move on to.  We need 7 wins from the remaining 19 games, I reckon.  Hard...... but achievable if we play as we did on Tuesday night.

Re: Ebbsfleet (H)

If it’s any consolation all five teams directly above lost today. It might not have made any difference today but we cannot afford  not to take gilt edged opportunities to score like we had in the first half.

Re: Ebbsfleet (H)

Thought we looked like a relegation bound team once Ebbsfleet scored. Not a popular view but seemed to be men against boys for the most part. Not sure survival will be achievable as there is a lot to do and a fair few teams to pass in the league table. We don't win enough games.

Re: Ebbsfleet (H)

While agree with Rambler how good Ebbsfleet were we made life very easy for them. Seemed to be a tactic of don't try and win the ball in the opponents half of the field. Whenever they had the ball in  their half of the pitch we retreated back to the half way line. Talk about defending deeply.
After Tuesday's attacking performance it seemed reverting back to a defensive performance.  Accept you can only play as well as your opponents let you but I said above the way I saw it we didn't help ourselves.
And game after game why do we pull everyone back to defend corners, free kicks etc? Leave at least one player up field not only does it mean there is a chance of holding onto the ball if cleared it also means your opponents have to leave one or two players back.

Re: Ebbsfleet (H)

Also think Chippenham were too respectful of Ebbsfleet.Instead of making a start full of intent like Tuesday against Slough, we reverted to type by conceding the initiative. It was a disappointing approach especially after building some momentum on Tuesday. Once they got their first, there was no confidence out there - I suppose as is to be expected of a team in Chippenham's position. Not at all convinced that there is the capability to put together a proper run (winning games) to avoid the drop but have thought that for most of the season.

Re: Ebbsfleet (H)

Very much a case of after the lord mayors show, having played so well to win on Tuesday. I thought Ebbsfleet were better all over the pitch, quick to close us down and go forward with willing runners giving plenty of attacking options. Had they not been so reluctant to shoot early on the score could have been worse. Another advantage I thought they had was age and experience. That said if we had scored the opening goal (a glaring miss just before they got their first) then who knows what might have been. As always no lack of effort from Chippenham but this league is so tough that effort on its own is not normally enough to get something from games.

To take a positive from the day most of the teams just above us in the table also lost.

Re: Ebbsfleet (H)

Just watched the highlights.  Looks like we've missed an absolute sitter at 0-0, although we'll never know if a goal then would have changed the overall outcome on the day.  The defending (there wasn't any) for the third goal was shocking, but we've had a good little run of results so we shouldn't be too harsh.
I admire Rambler's optimistic prediction of another 7 wins needed.  That would only give us 41 points - not sure that'll be enough?  However hope springs eternal, and our neighbours down the A4 are getting very twitchy.  Our game at Twerton might be very interesting if we're both in with a chance of survival come Easter!

Re: Ebbsfleet (H)

My points prediction included  a handful of draws InsideLeft... i.e  anything that would get us to 45/46 points bare minimum.  I should have made that clearer.  It is still a very tall order.. and means we probably need to beat every single team of the  the 7 or 8 teams immediately above us in the table ( bar Slough)... all of whom we have yet to play before  April 25th  There is  sort of  rightness about that.   If we ARE good enough to stay in the League .. then we  need to prove  it against all the "weaker" teams.
