Man of the Match

Not sure if any of the team deserves to have this award
A woeful performance causing very little threat to Boreham goal
Not blaming the players, they are playing the way they have been told to!

Re: Man of the Match

Said it all when 1 nil down with 10mins to go. And we swap Parsons for McClure, such a negative attitude.
Bench Spent most of the game arguing with the young 4th official. What’s the point as he is powerless to do anything.
Johnson is better than the new guy, so release him early on the first train back to York.

Re: Man of the Match

About the only words l can think of to describe that is an absolute shambles. Clueless could still be playing and not scored. Did the Boreham keeper have a save to make? Can't remember one. I thought after the last two games we might be starting to play a more adventurous style but today back to the boring negative style as evidenced by that substitution in the last 10 minutes. Struggling to make any impact with one striker. Answer take one off and bring one on! We are miles too slow in getting the ball forward and when we do it's one Chippenham player in the penalty area against 3/4 defenders.
Not that Boreham Wood were particularly good but exposed our physical weakness. Lost count of the number of fouls they committed without any action taken by the referee until very late in the game.

Re: Man of the Match

Can barely create any chances and when we do we don't take them. Personally was more optimistic than ever going into this season but has ended up feeling like our most disappointing start- losing Fas in the summer definitely proving costly.

Recent results have been so frustrating- should've been beating Weston, Tonbridge and Boreham Wood based on how they played, but have been treated to drab, dull games with a lack of any end product.

Not sure what the answer to our profligacy is but all I know is I'm starting to feel like an idiot handing over £16 every couple weeks.

Aveley on Saturday something of a must-win game.

Re: Man of the Match

Not good enough all round. Nobody done anything off the cuff or took the initiative on the pitch. Never looked like scoring and ran out of ideas. It is like watching Development FC. Looks far too comfortable.

Manager/Management well off it - unable to adapt and change the game in any positive way. Game was drifting away for a long time whilst they waited and waited. When they did decide to act one of the coaches spent a good while showing Johnson something on a clipboard before he came on to play - at left back.Delaying and overcomplicating things when you are 1-0 down?! That and the striker for striker substitution summed it up.

Re: Man of the Match

Just listened to Gary Horgan's post match interview. Kept referring to containing Boreham which on the basis they only scored one goal suppose we did. But that seems to be the tactic every game at the expense of being positive. Surely this tactic of containment is of little use when you need to take the game to the opponents.Today even after we went behind very little difference in the way we played.
I wonder if the guy who does the interviews reads this forum as if he did he would see the consistent concerns running through the comments posted. Wouldn't it be nice if he could ask the manager a question which addresses these concerns and maybe get an answer.

Re: Man of the Match

Boreham Wood were a big experienced side and a real threat going forward, but I’m not sure they ever really had to get out of second gear throughout the whole game. I thought that we’d give it a real go in the second half, especially in the last twenty minutes or so but we seemed to show no ambition with the substitutions.  I wouldn’t be pushing any panic buttons yet as it’s still early days, but I’m seeing too much ‘academy’ style football being served up - very dull and very disappointing.
On a brighter note, those of us who were watching the Town in the 1970’s will remember Ron Low, who was an imposing and skilful figure in midfield.  He’s not had the greatest health in recent years but was there watching on from his wheelchair yesterday.  I’d be interested to hear what he thought of it! It was good to see him.

Re: Man of the Match

Personally, I think we should beat ourselves up a little less, and give Boreham Wood a bit more credit.  They are a fully professional battle-hardened outfit who have just come down from a prolonged spell in the NL Premier, which they clearly believe is their natural home and next destination.  All their players were extremely comfortable on the ball and they had some marked quality in Jack Payne and their number 19 who was exceptional.. Defensively, I thought they were very, very good.  It isn't many games where you see Will Dawes get so little change from his marker(s). Harry Parsons  had two minders in constant attendance who gave him little room. They reduced us to a series of half chances by suffocating us around their penalty area.  We were outgunned  and I thought we did well to stay in the game all the way through. As others have said, I do wish we had rolled the dice more in the last  20-25 minutes. With no disrespect to either of them, but Alex Bray and MM coming on didn't exctly fill the heart with confidence that we'd get a goal .. let alone two. . It seemed far too cautious for many of us.  That said, Tyreke did bring an attacking edge when he slotted in as left wing-back.  As for being a shambles, I can't even recognise that word in our play.  I thought we were  pretty well organised and kept our shape.  Most of us on this Forum from memory know what a proper CTFC shambles looks like. ( some of the Home performances under Mike Cook and the latter days of Mark Collier). and yesterday wasn't it.  I don't know how Gary and the Management team are going to find goals and Home wins,  but they are going to have to start coming fairly soon.  Interesting to see that a CTFC "released player" a few years back, Noah Coppin, is now central to Salisbury's climb up the ladder.  Strikers need to find their niche and know the players around them.  Harry Parsons will make good...They are a lot of "nearly" moments for him which I'm sure will  turn into goals. However, those goals will probably only come when we get the ball down the channels consistently more quickly than we are doing at present. The squad we have at present are much better suited to Blitzkrieg tactics.... sharp, interpassing in the centre of the pitch and quick raids down the flanks..  than long slow, predictable build-ups. We are simply not suited to periods of  shuffling the cards and humming and hawing once in possession. Spectators hate it, too. For me, we are long way from the Panic button, but we do now have to start taking 3 points from teams that are mid-table or below.  Aveley would be a good place to start.

Re: Man of the Match

Until we start scoring goals we won’t win games. To me it’s as simple as that. It’s always been a issue with us.One up front isn’t going to win us games

Re: Man of the Match

Something I've observed this past week - wsm 2nd 1pt off top and Boreham Wood 3pts off top - neither side looked anything special. And of the games I've seen this season (mainly home games admittedly) I don't recall any team blowing us away. Yes we've been poor but if we can do a few things better I don't think we're that far from picking up wins again in this division.
