Re: Attendance

We probably had better attendances in Southern Premier League, interesting to see over 20 sides at step 3 have higher crowds than us this season. Could be any number of reasons.
* some people only follow a winning team
* lack of ‘derbies’ realistically only Bath seen as local rivals
* lack of interest in local media, no newspaper based in Chippenham, gazette don’t even send a reporter
*finances are tight for people, but that’s the same everywhere.

Re: Attendance

I think the product we have at Chippenham is good for the £14 entrance fee.

I think you're correct CB when you say attendances swell when there's a winning team (or more likely to win games).

I agree the local press don't do enough to cover their own town's football team, the  internet tells me Chippenham has a population of 36,548 people, so 594 people is 1.63% of people of the town attending, Bath, in comparison have an average attendance of 1,062 from a town population of 101,557 which is 1.05%.

Weymouth have an average attendance of 810 from a town population of 53,427 which works out at 1.52% so about the same as us.

I'd love to do the figures for other clubs in the division when I've got enough time but I'd love to know the reasons why the population of Chippenham only come out for the big games.

Edit:

Farnborough 595 from 57,486 so 1.02%
Worthing 810 from 111,338 so 0.73%
Hungerford 404 from 5,869 so 6.88%

Re: Attendance

I’m not sure how old that Chippenham population figure is, but I understood with new people moving into the town, the figure is nearer to 45K now. This of course makes the percentage of people attending our home games even less. We have absolutely no presence in the town to promote or advertise our home games, which for a club at our level surely is essential. I also thought we had commercial people working for the club now, promoting it with local businesses. Two years ago I gave the Chairman’s wife details of every company on Bumpers Farm (200+) so someone could visit from the club with regards to negotiating sponsorship - wonder how that’s going ?

Re: Attendance

To be fair the club have secured sponsorship with CMC to allow under 16’s in free until 30th April l, they are the future supporters and the LIT fibre deal appears pretty good from the outside.

Re: Attendance

But under 16's can already get free entrance if accompanied by a paying adult.

Re: Attendance

I think the issue of lower crowd figures came up a year or so ago... I'm not convinced success on the pitch is a factor currently considering last season saw us making a playoff push but no notable difference in attendances!

The whole point of CMC offering the free child place, is because they are generating new support through there huge web presence.
I for one received an email from them.
So looks like good advertising to me .
Well done Simon.

Re: Attendance

Back in southern league days we had pratt and sandell banging in the goals, and the real chance of promotion.
Since promotion every season goes by opponents get harder our quality dips, goals drying up excitement and reality sinks in that mid table is the limit, last season being a bit of a fluke be honest.
