Next 5 league games will be telling.
Bath, Braintree, Bath, Chelmsford and Taunton.
Need to be picking up 6 points from those games I think.
If not decisions need to be made.
I guess it comes down to. Has Gary been given the budget to be competitive in this league?
If not then the Chairman needs to provide more funds(if Neil thinks he’s the right man to spend it)
If the answer is yes, then I can see only one result.
All this is a shame not just in league position but for any of the newer fans that might have attended the Xmas game off the back of FA Cup run.
Fingers crossed we do the double over Bath and things will look more rosy 😁

My very basic arithmetic says: 27 games left for us to play. Based on last season's table (when there were three fewer teams playing ).. you would have needed 45 points to be safe on a 4 down basis. (Bath on that figure would have been relegated and Braintree survive only on goal difference). Extrapolating from that, and adding in the extra fixtures we need to be looking at 52 points or so to be safe this season.... 52 points minus the 16 already gained means ... 36 points from 27 games... 1.3 points a game. I'm quite sure this figure or something near to it is on Gary and the Chairman's respective whiteboards. Realistically, it probably translates to good home form and solid away performances. It is a little worrying that the defence seems a lot more porous of late. It was the bulwark of Mike Cook's excellent Away record last season and Gary's first few games in charge. KP was important but his absence hasn't surely made that much difference. I'll reiterate what i've said earlier, though. For all the very genuine worry and concern expressed in this thread (which I share), rationally, the Club has all the fundamenttals for relative success. From the Chairman downwards our structure seem stable. There is certainly no crisis... either financial or in the dressing-room
(we hope). It's a bleak time of year and we have a blizzard of fixtures which seem to ease a bit in difficulty from February onwards. I think "scrapping" is probably in the DNA of the Club at the moment and equips us better for a fight than some others. The only thing we, as Forum hacks, can bring to that fight is unstinting support. COYB. If is there any stato out there who can correct my Maths please do so. Not my strong point!!

With all the re arranged games, January is a massive month for us.

We don't have a stand out threat going forward that opponents fear, for all the good teamwork and cohesiveness on display. Meanwhile the best defence in the league has become the leakiest. Some points out of either or both Bath games would settle the nerves but although I hope to be proved wrong, I fear big disappointment and then it's crunch time for Horgan and Coupe.
