Re: Burton

Stop it please, I don’t think anyone really expected us to win today. Lincoln was our day, we enjoyed it and the club have been set up financially for future season’s. It appears today was men against boy’s, now we must move on and start climbing the league obviously strengthening we our new found cash. Well done all but no in house fighting please.

Re: Burton

First half was men v boys, set up to try and nullify Burton rather than taking game to them. 5 at the back just invites pressure and we buckled. Second half moving to a 4 and being more positive gave them plenty to think about. Thought 3rd goal would be a killer but came back and got the goal and if we had got a second in the following minutes then they would have dropped deeper and might have struggled. As it was 4th went in and fitness told. So we lost the 1st half 2 0 but got battered and frankly humiliated  but when we came out and played aggressively we lost 2nd half 4.1 but at least that was a half to be proud of, just wish we had been positive from get go

Re: Burton

6-1 perhaps flattered them a little bit but they were clinical and more of a footballing side than Lincoln - their pace and slick passing carved us open first half. I don't mind the scoreline because Gary was bold making three changes at ht and we went for it more in the second half. Would have been easy to just damage limitation but with nothing to lose why not go for it? Unfortunately we wasted a corner at 1-3 and ten seconds later Henry was picking the ball out of the net and game truly over. Hopefully we'll see them attack from the start a bit more regularly. No complaints of our lads though, the difference told.

Great atmosphere on the terrace, what made it a great day for me.

Re: Burton

Supporters were absolutely class today. No thoughts in my head but that of pride at the moment. Wasn’t our day today in the slightest but certainly one me or my throat won’t forget in a hurry. Well done all who made such huge efforts to buy tickets and travel, the ovation at the end was heartwarming! They kept pumping out there music to drown us out and we just went a little louder.

Re: Burton

That terrace made for a hell of an atmosphere not seen away since Salisbury I would suggest

Re: Burton

What a day despite the result. Other than the vase final the best support we have taken to a game. What a site seeing 5 supporters coaches and the services packed with Bluebirds fans.  The atmosphere at Dartford last season was brilliant but yesterday was another level.

On the pitch Burton were different class but we kept going and when Parsons scored we had a faint chance until that short corner (say no more). Fitness then told. The players and fans did us proud.

Re: Burton

Always a big ask for the lads and that gulf in class showed. But Im happy that it showed when we were going out fighting, if you're in round 2 for the first time ever, the least you can do is give it a go and and we certainly did. The scoreline in the second half reflects that. Burton for thier part played very well, our support... wow - I hope that is relected in the league.

A massive acheivement for the club. Well done to all involved.

Want a bare knuckle fight? I'll knock you out you Cnut.

Re: Burton

A great day, result aside, and a glimpse of our potential as a club.  The best atmosphere created from start to finish at any Town game I’ve attended (and I include Wembley in that) so hats off to the hundreds who turned up.
No need to really comment on the game itself, it was plain for all to see where we fell short and the difference in our performance/shape once we’d made the changes, well, most of them 😉.
All in all, a great cup run.

Re: Burton

I don't think that particular Chippenham  team could have imagined the constant barrage of noise that willed them on for the  first 25 minutes yesterday.. completely new to them as Chippenham players.  Sadly, it couldn't really begin to help bridge the gulf in quality, physicality  and technique between the two sides, although, as has been acknowledged elsewhere, we played some really decent footaball for 15 or 20 minutes at the start of the second half. Personally, I felt at 3-1 a second goal really might come, to set up a storming last 15.. but poor decision-making at a CTFC corner leading directly to goal 4 for BAFC snuffed out that brief ember.    The eternal conundrum remains about why the fantastic support there ( 683 Chippenham tickets sold) can't translate even modestly into bread-and-butter League games ... or might it?.  As InsideLeft says.. we saw a "glimpse" there of a club we could be.  It looks like a long, long patient road to get there but there's no reason it can't happen.  Tribute to Burton. The best Away parking ( 50ms from the ground?) I've come across; a drinkable  enough In-Ground beer ( Worthington Creamflow keg) brewed just down the road at Coors; pleasant stewards at the entrance; a bizarre Day Care advertisement at every substitution or was it goal?? And a good example of how a club with really modest crowds can hack it at that level. Hope the coaches got back at a reasonable time.  Rambler's car took 1.5 hours longer to get back than to get to Burton courtesy of our old friend, the M5.
For now though... all attention is on the League  and 5 really challenging games one after the other.  I really believe there was a lesson learnt at Burton about ambition.  If you begin a game with the principal aim of containment and you fall behind you have little  left in the armoury (until post-half time substitutions)  As a spectator, I'd be really heartened to see Gary make some more assertive starting XI decisions.  With Harry, Jordan, Joe P, Craig F, and Harvey G... we have some potency and ability to play through other teams  rather than go over them.
