Friendly against Bristol Rovers

Thought we were a bit to friendly letting them score after 6 seconds.Trailist C(who ever he was) looked pretty useful up front.Hard to say to much about the game as each half was virtually different teams.Crowd was about 350.For £5 a game worth watching

Re: Friendly against Bristol Rovers

Was a strange game. I think Gary can take a lot of positives from the younger lads impressing, I'd say they impressed me more than the senior lads.

Trialist C looked alright, not sure who he was but had the look of a journeyman striker.

We've got Young, Griffiths, Warre and Coppin up front this seaon so I'm not sure there's room.

Re: Friendly against Bristol Rovers

I thought the big guy up front in the first half (Trialist C I think it was) looked just the sort of striker we have been missing since Griff moved on: Big, direct, and caused the Rovers youngsters all sorts of problems - I hope we do sign him. In this league it seems every team has a big lad up front, apart from us ! This I feel is an opportunity to change that - only my opinion of course - Gary May think differently.

Re: Friendly against Bristol Rovers

If we stick with three up front that worked very well last season I'm not sure we need much improvement in that area - certainly Young is one of the first names on the team sheet so any centre forward we'd sign would mainly be on the bench. Always good to have that type of option to bring on of course, but I think Gary would be wise to keep Young and the attacking system as it was last season than try to shoehorn him and others (Alfie) into other positions.

Young is not a striker. He’s an attacking midfielder who often drops very deep to get the ball when played up front,  leaving no one up top. We need a classic No 9 who can hold the ball up.
Trialist C looked good and I’d have him over Griffiths anyday.
Still can’t believe we’ve got Griffiths on a contact but not Parselle, Greenslade or Russe.

Re: Friendly against Bristol Rovers

I don't agree the system needs changing or improving. Our main weakness last season for me was lack of depth. Yes Young isn't an out and out striker and was perhaps too deep against Ebbsfleet, but is our main attacking threat imo and we wouldn't be getting the best out of him out wide or in midfield.

Griffiths needs to shed a few pounds in my view, he had a couple of good seasons and I think there's a player in there but he just needs to show us something!
