Havant

What a performance- They were on the front foot as expected for a lot of the game but the managers decision to play a back three and their immense performances meant they were limited to loads of set pieces which were dealt with well. Hard to pick a man of the match, Hamilton, Richards, Russe and Harper all particularly impressed.

Was not expecting 3 points from this one so a great result leaving us 4th in the league with the least goals conceded and a game in hand on 2 of the teams above us despite a really tough first three games.

Re: Havant

Good all round performance.Had to defend well in second half, but could have nicked a couple of goals. Thought the crowd of 550 was disappointing.Don’t think I’ve been to a game with so many bookings,I got to 12, but wouldn’t have called it a dirty game, just a over zealous referee.

Re: Havant

An important win I felt. They came expecting to beat us and tried to bully us into submission and early on they were on top but Will's goal just before half-time unsettled them. I agree the ref was very keen to pull a yellow card, I think he let too much go without a talking to early on and then set himself a precedent. A couple of H&W could easily have seen a second yellow and an early bath, which is why I think their striker that tripped Vince was subbed. They are not quite as good as they think they are and we are perhaps a bit better than we think are and need a bit more belief and confidence, which these early results will help.

Re: Havant

What a performance from every single one of our lads yesterday. Was very hard to single out a Man of the Match and it literally could have gone anywhere yesterday but in the end, Adam Mann picked up the honour and I don't think many would argue that in terms of work rate, performance and being an absolute warrior against a big Havant back line, he is very deserving of the accolade!

A game of missed chances more than big moments with Havant misfiring all afternoon and two great chances for Stearn and Warwick that could have put the game out of sight and eliminated that nervy ending but they make them all the sweeter when that final whistle goes.

For me the most pleasing thing is the spirit in this team, they fight for each other and for us. They celebrate winning headers like goals, the encourage and push each other to do the extra and it's really showing in the results so far this season. Whilst it might be early, let's not play it down. Dulwich and Havant with their budgets should be beating us, Slough with their resources should also find themselves competing with us, both would have saw that game as a chance for 3 points and in the past, we have come up short in these games.

The fact the lads, can't seem to wait to get over to the fans at the end of the game and celebrate with them, seeing the team come over and celebrate 3 points like they've just won the whole thing is just part of the spirit that is flowing through this team at the moment. It just sort of feels different this year doesn't it? A good point by Newfan, we are looking at these teams and viewing ourselves the underdog and surprising ourselves by how good we look. However, an "underdog" mentality is never a bad thing, treating every game as a cup final pays huge dividends, just look at Hungerford last year! Whilst the season was disrupted, they battled for every single point and put a lot into their position with sadly was derailed by COVID but hard work and effort will beat talent more often than not. Couple that with the quality in the squad and we are looking like a very good season is in front of us full of excitement and moments like the Slough and Havant games.

Already can't wait for the trip to St Albans, we have a few demons to put to rest there and will for me be our toughest game yet despite Havant's obvious power. Free scoring striker, a good side that look like they will again be up around the playoffs this season but with the way our back 4/5 are playing at the moment, who would bet against us going up there and keeping Jeffers quiet! I say!! My first post, if that's the right word, on this forum, despite a stern warning from butler-cum-chauffeur-cum factotum HR, also known as The Beaded Wonder ( and hereafter TBW), who has reminded me of the three  things one  should at all costs, avoid experiencing in life, to wit: incest, Morris dancing and contributing to a Football Forum.  I have  now broken 2 of those edicts... although the thought of Morris dancing is becoming hard to resist as well..

Let me introduce myself.  Name's Lord********** Baronet and ancestral owner of the demesne of North **********  somewhat to the north of Cepenham, although still in the County of Wiltshire. About 4000 acres of arable, extensive woodland and a modest vistor attraction.  Asset rich - cash impoverished would sum it up.  Some years back I began the painfully joyful  (or joyfully painful) task of lending my modest support to Chippenham Town FC.  I am compelled to say here quite early and quite clearly, that in common with most contributors to this estimable site, I know absolutely nothing about soccer football at all.  I couldn't tell a Sandell from a flip-flop; a Twine from a ball of string nor a Zebrowski from a pedestrianised crossing.   Nevertheless I now understand the rudiments of the game ,  and those rudiments  are on ample and regular display at Hardenhuish Resurfacing Park ( "Don't forget the Ltd" the Bearded Wonder reminds me).
You may find me, as a Seasoned Season Ticket Holder in the Main Stand of a Saturday post meridiem or a Tuesday evening, bespectacled, shooting-sticked and plus-foured sitting with a hip flask in my hand and a copy of the Financial Times for perusal at the Intermission and for swatting unruly children and away fans should they warrant it ( or even if they don't).  The Bearded Wonder sits hard by, mumble-grumbling and staring at his telephone for large sections of any game quite oblivious to my regular bellow of "Come on Chipp."  Her Ladyship, about whom there will be more at a later date  , enjoyed her one and only experience of the Thornbury Park experience ( "Don't forget the Ltd!" ) but a glimpse of the magnificent McCooty abdominals in a rare shirt divesting manoeuvre occasioned a full-out knee wobbling faint and speedy administration of the old smelling salts once again by the trusty BW)  She was later escorted from the ground to the waiting Daimler by a helpful young St John's volunteer  while I battled with 15 across in the Pink One crossword.  She has not returned--- although a photograph of the legs of one  Master W. Richards,  basted and glazed by the Australian sun, have clearly aroused her and I would not be surprised if a  return  to the TPHPR  ( Don't forget the Ltd) might ensue before the season is out.

Time is up.  Back to stare at the pigs and shoot at some local walkers.   Next post I'll discuss my long-term relationship and affection for Bath City FC's own Godfather Red Ken Loach  and the average rainfall at every Hungerford away game this millennium.  Fascinating Stuff!  .. although I've just caught TBW supprewssing a yawn....  Au revoir!!

What a TWAT

Re: Havant

Its this kind of Cnut that ensures we've got the likes of Micheal Gove for the next umpteen years.

Want a bare knuckle fight? I'll knock you out you Cnut.

Re: Havant

Ah!! The knuckle-draggers have stirred! I insulted no-one and merely introduced myself, somewhat longwindedly I agree.  Perhaps after the 4 letters of "TWAT" and "Cnut" you might strive for some 5 letter words next week.  There's a challenge.  Do come and say hello at the next home game.  I have identified myself clearly , perhaps you will do the same and take a dram (discreetly of course) with me during the Interval.  There's another  challenge.... and an opportunity!  Am amazed that a fellow fan should become so intemperate!
Factual inaccuracy: I may be a cnut and a twat but am also a fully paid up member of the Labour Party... which might or might not ensure a further term for M Gove Esq as you suggest Ronnie. Who knows?
