20 weeks...

20 weeks to fit in our remaining 27 league games.

With further postponements still to come due to COVID and the winter weather still here for a few more weeks, it's hard to see our season finishing on the 29th May as planned.

There's also no news on any further funding, with the first batch only covering up to the end of 2020. With the new lockdown, there will be no spectators in stadia until February at the earliest, but most likely mid-March. Although I don't worry about our Club being at risk, I do fear for others at our level, and our old friends in the Southern Leagues.

Slough Town released a pretty honest statement on "how essential is football at our level" which can be read here:

Do we see the season finishing on time, if at all? Interested to hear the thoughts of our fans.

Re: 20 weeks...

Is football essential at our level, in the scheme of things most certainly not. We are not elite, as stated previously “ Elite” players do not work all day then play football some 3 hours away then return to work the next day. As for finance we know NB will always back the club and for that reason our future is very secure, we are a small club in the league with limitations and we must keep a perspective. Slough Town make interesting points, as for Southern league clubs I think the bigger teams will become smaller and the smaller clubs may well slide down the pyramid.

Re: 20 weeks...

Funny how it’s the teams near the bottom that were expected to be in the playoffs that are vocal about the season ending or being suspended I.e. Bath and Slough

Re: 20 weeks...

I don't think Slough's league position is relevant to their views.  It seems a simple and  reasonable review of the situation. I was unaware that Bath city were suggesting anything similar but would imagine a number of NLS teams would feel the same way.
I believe that  a number of National League clubs were unhappy with the way  the first  funding allocation was shared out and want any further funding to shared out differently including an element  to correct the original share out. This could mean that any further funding to Chippenham may be much reduced.

I don't think they'll be any teams relegated this season as I can't see the leagues below us completing their season

That is very true

Re: 20 weeks...

It seems to me our role in 'Elite' football at this present time is to add some relevance to the Premiership and EFL by providing routes for promotion and relegation. Without a system of promotion and relegation, with the exception of qualification to European competitions, league games played in the Premiership and EFL are meaningless.

To answer the original question, I can't see all of the games being played, but probably enough to be able to name a league champion and teams for the play-offs.

I think the 81% of National North clubs who voted not to start the season without crowds, unless there was a financial support package in place, were right.

Re: 20 weeks...

Meanwhile it looks increasingly likely that Steps 3 & 4 will terminate their seasons and declare them null and void.  No doubt the Steps below will follow suit.

Re: 20 weeks...

And as if by some wicked twist of fate, I find myself once agreeing with Wellard. Clubs look to be using "Covid" as an equaliser for poor seasons or I think in a few others' case, transitional seasons where they are not as strong after an exodus of players and a lack of recruitment. Take Bath for example. Anyone at that game can agree, that is the weakest Bath side we have seen since promotion and for those watching before the sending off I think everyone would have agreed that game was only going one way. Wilson gets sent off, they have not only a weaker side but also no striker for the return game against us on the 2nd. And boom, as if by some cruel twist of fate. They have Covid problems a week later. None in our team despite sharing the field for 90 but game off and who in their right mind at the moment would question that excuse. Now I am not suggesting teams are doing this left right and centre but let's be honest, the evidence would support that claim. Personally I think it's gone too far now, stop the league, void the season or provide a competitive financial package that can support the clubs in terms of safely finishing that season within a designated time frame. If that is not possible, then football is not a viable option during this time of increased infection. Mr Chairman has said it since Day 1.. Football is nothing without Fans.. but football is also nothing without players and right now, if it's as unsafe as it looks by postponement.. then a decision needs to be made

I agree with the Voice on this point.
