The Pitch

Can we just take a little moment to throw some love in the direction of one Mr Tony Godwin.

Over the last few weeks we have had 3 different storms so vicious they apparently deserve names. During this time Tony has managed to maintain this pitch in difficult circumstances and more often than not single handed with assistance coming where it can but more often than not, Tony cuts a lonely figure across the pitch. Cutting grass, tending to the affected areas, painting lines and all of this is as always voluntary.

When it comes to volunteers or "Club Men" this man really has been the beacon. When I first started going to CTFC matches in the late nineties, Tony was an important member behind the scenes then, fast forward to 2020 he is still there, still pulling all the strings and getting it done and probably working harder than ever which at his age is a testament to the man and how much he cares. He is the biggest smile when we win and the most disappointed when we lose.

Tony Godwin, you are a true CTFC legend and thank you for giving us football at a time where even the likes of League One chasing Swindon, Championship and even Premier League teams are having to re-arrange fixtures due to conditions. In some respects with these games going ahead in tough conditions being a great leveller against certainly Maidstone, we can attribute some of this purple patch to your dedication and hard work!

When Neil and the board had the pitch sorted at the start of this year, it really was a beautiful surface for football and the fact this has been maintained through these conditions and a big volume of of games over the colder months is a real product of everyone's hard work and efforts. Well done all.

Re: The Pitch

Agree with previous comments. Not only have we had football to watch we have gained valuable points. Well done to Tony and anyone else who has helped out behind the scenes.
