So, we go again tomorrow night against those plucky lads from Gloucestershire in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round replay at Hardenhuish Park.
We know a little more about our opponents than we did this time last weekend and I think many of the travelling Bluebirds were more than a little shocked at how much better this side looked than the one that laboured in the friendly at the start of the year. Magic of the Cup I guess, everyone had a little point to prove.
It's a strange one as once the smoke had cleared from Saturday and you look back, god only knows how we didn't get the job done on the day. Cirencester, whilst by no means being a pushover, on the balance of "chances created" can count themselves the lucky ones to still be in the hat for this afternoon's draw and maybe we have been left to rue the chance missed but certainly a sense of relief to get the equaliser and pull them back to Hardenhuish Park tomorrow night rang around the stadium on Saturday.
There are many positives to come out of this however, another gate at home which is always a welcome for the board, we should have more than enough to get the job done Tuesday night with better fitness and a vibrant bench that will be chomping at the bit for their chances (Particularly Jarvis, who I thought despite Hopper being the one who tapped home, was the real difference maker on Saturday with his energy and movement) and also it now serves as the last game of Will Puddy's suspension which means that should Mark wish to bring Puds back into the fold he can do this for the Dulwich game if he so wishes. Will Henry has stood up fantastically well over the last two games and personally I am really grateful that we are able to bring in players of such quality as cover and it's a real testament to the management to get them up to speed and playing with such commitment straight from the off. Should this be your last game for Chippenham, thank you Will Henry for an excellent stint and some big saves.
Big week of football for Chippenham this week, I am sure there will be enough people on hand to keep us posted on the draw this afternoon, I am lucky to have one of those jobs where I can tune into Talksport and ignore clients and staff for a half hour or so while I find out who we get ;)

Cirencester can count themselves lucky? We obviously saw it differently and I have been accused previously of wearing rose tinted spectacles.

Yes I believe that aside from one chance at start of the match where they flashed one across the goal and came off the foot of the post and one chance with Jonny Dennis going in on goal whilst we were chasing the game, Cirencester going forward were relatively benign and didn't look much of a threat outside of the big hoof to Griff and playing for the second ball. I am not saying Cirencester were without quality, far from but on the balance of the game yes I think any other day the amount of chances we created, blocks from defenders and tremendous saves from Lewis Clayton in the Cirencester goal may not have been so high and we would have taken many more goals from the tie.
I think it is very hard to see a team you care about and support as dominant at times because we tend to worry when the ball is at the other end of the park but I can count a couple of chance for each of our four strikers, a handful for our midfielders even our makeshift left back Curtis managed a shot on goal from a good position, couple of free kicks outside the box, 10-12 corners in the game for Chippenham, Tell me if you saw those stats in a draw then you wouldn't consider the other side fortunate to have picked up a result?
Either way, that game is dead, tonight we need to get on the front foot early and squeeze the hope and aspiration out of a team that will no doubt be running on empty after expending so much effort defensively and going forward on Saturday with ageing limbs on a few of their players and fitness at this level no doubt being a factor, we need to go and prove why we are the favourites for this tie!
Hope to see you there BB ;) it's crazy to think I have no idea who you are yet likely see you every week lol!!

Very quiet on here for a match day, I'm going 2-0 or 3-0 to us. Attendance 485.

So Griff shaving the bar and seeing another shot hit the cross bar and bounce down on the line were benign?
Anyway can't make tonight but fingers crossed.

Won 4-3 AET CIRENCESTER keeper punched Jarvis cross cum shot into net for winner, unlucky as he had made several great saves. On balance we just about deserved it

Wow. What a game. It had everything. I think I went through every emotion. Massive lows, highs and relief. For the neutral it must have been a cracker. A massive respect must go to Cirencester and our old warrior Griff. Who again had a superb game. Well done our lads who had to tuff it out at times. But we came through an almighty challenge. My man of the match was McDonald had a cracking game especially when you think of the lack of football he has played. Well done Mark, Horgs and the lads. Last night is why the FA Cup is special. And the moneys in the Bank. 😎

Christ, hard to know what to make of that!!!! Played pretty poor and threw away a lead twice, but that all seems a bit redundant given the way it finished, what a game!!! Credit to Cirencester, hard to believe they're 2 leagues below.
Hard to believe we're two leagues above, but money in the bank. We will have to play a lot better than that in the next round.

In my opinion we looked very lightweight in midfield last night, and with Dean Evans moving on now, it emphasizes the need for a strong attacking midfielder. We do not have a settled side, and I appreciate with injuries and suspensions to key players, that will not happen for a few weeks. But certain players are not performing to their full potential currently, and that is a worry for the hard league games looming on the horizon. Dulwich are always a big, physical side historically, and will certainly test us on Saturday. I'm sure the Manager will be aware of their physique, and set out a team to counteract that - COYMB

Or, is it hard to believe they were two leagues below? Did we play like a team in their division, or did they play like a team from ours? I am not saying it was a flawless performance, it wasn't and should we be battering teams like this? Probably and on any other given day we may well have done but this is their cup final! Every man playing their hearts out, in the shop window with the bigger local club and ultimately it's cup football. They came and gave everything tonight and they only just fell short in their endeavour because we were too good for them over the tie.
My biggest gripe with this is quite simply, should we beat Slough and get to the 4th Qualifying Round and say for example we draw a National League big boy.. let's say Yeovil, a big club for the level, playing football league last season. Should we expect nothing and give a half arsed performance because according to the divisions and league tables we shouldn't be giving them a game? No we would go and fight the way Cirencester have in "their" cup final over the last two matches.
We had no right to be battering a team like Cirencester purely on reputation alone, league standings mean next to nowt when cup football comes into play. It's a one off game, two in some cases where an underdog can run their balls off, play harder than they ever have before and occasionally pull of the shock. There is no embarrassment in the last two game, we are unbeaten in four games and it would seem have cured this problem of scoring goals. 2 against Tonbridge, 3 at Chelmsford and 6 over the two games against Cirencester, now what we need to do is get that defence back looking solid and less we forget, we are still missing Puddy, Richards, Tyler all key players back there and it's bound to take it's toll.
Come on guys positivity, it's not a dirty word. Look at facts not what should be according to paper. Now more than ever we need to keep the buzz about the ground. Dulwich will be a big physically demanding game and we are going to need to look at rotating the squad once more with Slough only 7 short days away after that game and some players with 120 minutes on the clock last night. Let's get behind the lads and kick this club on together!
