What's happened to the pre-season games against decent teams? They wont get anything from beating lower league dross? We need to be playing conference sides or higher? Bath City have got Rovers next week! Why aren't we playing Swindon Town? Even the Newport game isn't confirmed. I hope this is not a reflection of how the season is going to go?

Pitch not ready, away games only.

Not mentioned on Newport site either, going into season having played only 4 pre-season games could be a risk given most teams play around 7/8 against mixed levels of opposition.
Hopefully fitness levels won’t be affected

Two sides to this argument really. If the ultimate goal here is fitness, getting the ball moving and allowing the lads a chance to get minutes under the belt ahead of the season then I would suggest it doesn't matter who we play. We don't need to go playing higher opposition in games where we will likely over exert ourselves with points to prove in the name of fitness and as for beating lower league dross.. Winning I suppose is a habit as the old saying goes? We know what we are up against this year in the NLS, we know it's going to be tough, giving ourselves a tough pre-season won't change that.

Equally dominating possession against 4 lower league sides won’t test the players much. Always good to play higher league opposition if only to see what level your at and compare levels of fitness with teams further up the pyramid.
Hopefully the the Newport game comes good otherwise going into the most competitive national league south in recent years with our most challenging game coming against a relegated Frome side isn’t ideal preparation in my eyes.
We are the self proclaimed premier team in Wiltshire yet can’t even secure friendlies with either Swindon, rovers, Bristol city, forest green, and maybe Newport depending if it’s played.
Bath are playing forest green, Newport, rovers and Exeter.
Supermarine playing Swindon and forest green
Hungerford playing Swindon
Slough playing Eastleigh, Sutton, Bournemouth u23
Salisbury played reading u23, Swindon and Eastleigh
No arguments about it our pre-season schedule isn’t great,

Having a home pitch unavailable is going to be a huge part of that though mate.
I will imagine none of the above mentioned sides will be playing at these higher oppositions ground. They will almost all be at home to what will likely be a reduced side.
Also bear in mind a lot of these sides securing friendlies will likely be because they are feeder or connected via academy. I am not disputing it would be great to have some high profile friendlies but I am also going to say we "As the Premier club in Wiltshire" would have been able to secure friendlies against all of the above if we had the ability to invite them.
Also let's cut a little slack here, imagine if the situation was. You can play friendlies against Swindon, Rover, FGR reserves and trialists but once again the pitch will be battered to dust half way through the season. We need to embrace the larger goal here and I don't think that a pre-season stacked with attractive fixtures at home would turn out the right decision when you consider the alternative.

Do you know how far off it is from being ready?
Agree ‘The Voice’ I guess we all view pre-season differently and all managers plan differently so let’s get behind the lads and look forward to the St Albans game.

No worries St Albans play - Stevenage (Div 2), Barnet (National). We've got Melksham Town.
Yes I take what your saying about the pitch, but this is a disgrace! So we can't play a higher ranked team in the whole United Kingdom away from home? Who is the person at CTFC making these decisions?

Well the way I see it personally pre season fixtures are their to get the team fit and ready to do a job come the start of the season, get comfortable moving the football and getting to know the players around you. This can be achieved playing Manchester United or Mangotsfield.. of course if we are five games in without a win by all means let’s start questioning pre season and the preparation by the club but right now. Just enjoy some wins, goals and get ready for the tough slog ahead whilst watching the lads gel, few beers on terraces and let’s get ready to get firmly behind the team this year. The league might be as strong as it’s looked but to this point... so do we!
