Re: V Weston & Concord. Home.

Football’s all about ifs, buts and maybe’s so I can’t help thinking that if we’d lost to Weston then beaten Concord the outlook today would be much brighter.

Having said that we had a great opportunity to really put some daylight between us and other teams but we failed miserably.  What a poor performance.  Very flat right from the off, no real desire shown especially in the final third of the pitch, and some individual errors to compound matters.  Sloppy play let them in for the first goal then, for the second, Fergie was in a great position inside their box, misplaced his pass and they were up the other end to score again.  Game over.

I’m at a loss to see how Kaid got into the Vanorama team at the weekend, notwithstanding his completely ineffective performance last night.  Just not good enough, an expensive gamble.  Jake tries but I’m not sure he’s National South level.  If Sands was injured why put him on the bench?  Was Fergie carrying a knock, hence starting on the bench?  McCootie clearly not fit when he came on, so without Sands we’re struggling.  Hopefully the new lad from Gloucester (unavailable last night I’m told) has something about him.

The players need to put in a performance on Saturday. They owe it to the board, the management and the supporters.

Re: V Weston & Concord. Home.

Picking up on a couple of points in previous posts, for me, Jake Jackson gets stronger every game. He holds the ball up well, but with little or no effect, as there's no outlet for him. There doesn't seem to be a chemistry between any two forwards. There badly needs to be a partnership of some kind. As for Kaid, he can pass the ball well in and around the outside of the box, but there's no cutting edge to his game. He won't compete for balls in the air. Sands can take a man on and beat him, but for whatever reason, his services weren't required. What's become of Karnell Chambers? He scored away at Whitehawk, but to my knowledge hasn't featured since. I spent some of the half-time break in the queue for a cup of tea. As me and a mate who isn't a regular took our positions behind the goal,  I pre-warned him to watch out for balls flying over the top of the crossbar. Instead of which, I found the subs stood idly chatting.

Re: V Weston & Concord. Home.

I totally agree with all the previous comments. Last nights performance was the worst this season just when we needed to get three more points.
In my opinion very few of the players brought in during the season have been good enough to play at this level. But is it any wonder when they have in the main come from lower league clubs!
I was disappointed to hear Mark on the radio this morning say he was speaking to Swindon Town with the possibility of bringing in a defender. But again it will be a youngster with no experience at our level. If we are to bring someone in then surely we need experience at National League level.
Couldn't for the life of me understand why we changed a "winning" side and in the process left our most experienced player on the bench. I don't believe Sandell was injured so why leave him out? Especially as McCootie, who we paid a fee to join the club, came on in preference as a substitute. He is clearly not fit. It just about summed up the whole night.

Re: V Weston & Concord. Home.

My guess is that Concord had us watched on Saturday and saw the new formation and came with a game plan which they executed from the off. We didn't seem to be able to keep the shape as we did on Saturday anyway, but it was clear to me that we needed to change by midway through the first half at least. The two strikers were too isolated and even when they did get the ball and held it they had no outlet. The three central midfielders were sitting too flat and deep. We desperately needed a link man behind the front two and I thought that was what Collier was doing when Fergie came on, but instead he was out of position as right wing back as a straight swap for Jones (who I assume was found to be injured because Collier called Fergie in from the half-time warm-up.) Yet we kept pumping the long ball forward and it kept coming back at us. The strikers were too static when the ball was sent forward, however and more than a few times Tindle screamed at them for movement.

Like the abject home defeat to Bath this could be a defining game for our season

Re: V Weston & Concord. Home.

Can't think of the  words to describe last night's game that haven't already been used. Any neutral in the ground would have questioned who were the home team and who were the away team. Right from the off we just seemed to be content to sit back and let Concord have all the possession and control of the game. When we did get the ball, same as Saturday to be truthful, we simply gave it straight back to them with sloppy passing. Completely out thought, out fought and out played. Certainly question team selection against a team where gaining 3 points was crucial. Too defensive. On Saturday started with 2 good goals and then sat back for most of the game and absorbed pressure. Last night seemed to try and play the same way but without the luxury of a 2 goal cushion and it didn't work. At this level keep giving the ball to the opposition you will get eventually get punished and that is what happened last night. I think apart from Thompson who didn't appear to have any chance with either goal the only player I would say came out of last nights game with any sort of credit was McDonald.

Macdonald gave Concord the ball for the first goal.

Re: V Weston & Concord. Home.

I hope the management team take a long hard look at the postings on this Forum regarding last night's game, because everyone is spot with their opinion on what went wrong. If we as supporters can see what went horribly wrong last night, then why can't the guys in the dug-out see it as well ! We seem to have a certain style of play currently, which is neither effective or attractive to watch, but we cannot seem to change the system if things do not go our way, such as last night This I feel is a massive issue with this team at the moment. All the above postings are observations/advice on what we witnessed last night, and hopefully the penny will drop before it's not too late - end of rant.

Re: V Weston & Concord. Home.

Wishful thinking Toyboy. Management teams would if anything take the opposite view to any comments no matter however constructive on clubs forums. In my personal opinion we seem to be playing similar to Hungerford Town. I wonder why? Last night we didn't start with a proven goal scorer hence it was pointless sitting back and striking when the opportunity occurred. We found it impossible to get the ball down and pass it to colleagues. No opportunities were forthcoming.
Oh well it can't get any worse and we must now prepare for Saturday's game.
