Trowbridge Town on the way back

Trowbridge Town council have bought the freehold of their ground thus allowing the club to develop it with floodlights etc and they are aiming for the Western League in a couple of years and then who knows?

Re: Trowbridge Town on the way back

Remarkable to think they used to be THE club around here, and were founder members of what is now The National League (Conference).  It'll be a long long road back for them but I wish their loyal band of supporters all the best.  They'll do well to get anywhere near the Southern League within 10-15 years.  Melksham are light years ahead of them with the very impressive new facilities at Oakfield.

Re: Trowbridge Town on the way back

Great to hear they could be on the way back. I am a Trowbridge boy born and breed and as a child my family's property backed on to the Frome Road ground. During the 1980's I used to take my son to watch the Town play in the old Alliance league ( National league), this was the time when Alan Birchinell was the manager and the players I remember best are Andy Feeley ( ex Hereford and then went on to play for Leicester City) and Bernie Wright ( ex Everton ) we used to play against teams like Yeovil, Cheltenham, Barrow, Gateshead and Barnet ( they beat use 9 nil at home and some of their fans spray painted the result on our stand , the Shed). They were at the time the second team in Wiltshire and with a town that size should be pushing the likes of us and Salisbury again, sorry state of affairs to see them playing in front of one man and his dog at Woodmarsh. As I have been in Chippenham for over 20 years and followed the Bluebirds for 16 my loyalties are with them and would love to see us in National League South. " We're Chippenham old boys and we sing when we want."

Re: Trowbridge Town on the way back

I attended their very first game at Frome Road in the Alliance League against Boston United. A certain Alun Birchinell scored the only goal of the game. Also seem to remember that George Armstrong, formally the Arsenal legend played as well for Trowbridge. What stuck in my mind more than anything though, was the dreadful pitch at Frome Road. The slope was bad enough, but there was hardly a blade of grass, and looked more like the last game rather than the first game of the season ! Can anyone remember when the Mighty Bluebirds went there in the FA Cup and stuffed them 3-1 ? What a game, and I remember a certain John Freeguard stored twice. I wonder who John would far in our current time with the service our front two provide ? happy dAYS
