Banbury

Lost our unbeaten record 0-1 ft. Pratt sent off second yellow after they were already down to 10, although Banbury tried everything they could to get him that second card and he helpfully obliged. Not the preparation we needed for Saturday. A few tired bodies out there after Saturday's efforts. Think we should have started with those on the bench playing and then brought the regulars on later.

Re: Banbury

Battered them second half, couldn't find that elusive chance. Smith sick. Nuno played only 25 Saturday. Preece Griffin Guthrie didn't start Saturday.

Re: Banbury

I heard from numerous sources on that side of the pitch that Dave Pratt didn't foul the Banbury player that resulted in him getting sent for an early bath. It was one of their own that took him down and they cynically blamed Pratt and unfortunately the ref fell for it. I myself saw one of their players trying to get one of ours sent off by alleging an elbow had been used when in fact no contact had been made. It's such a shame that clubs play like that when most of the supporters in attendance want to watch a fair game whatever the result. It's great to win but not at the cost of cheating.

Re: Banbury

My son said exactly the same thing regarding the Pratty dismissal, that one of the Banbury guys took his own team mate out to make it look at though Pratty had inflicted the tackle, and he was stood right by the incident. All in all not a good night for the Bluebirds. We huffed and puffed but could not break down a blanket defense. Thought we missed the inventiveness of Pooky and the non-stop running of Smithy in midfield. I understand that Pooky will also miss the Poole game, which is a big blow. On a positive note I thought the attendance (377) was excellent for a midweek fixture, as we often struggle with numbers on a Tuesday evening. Lets hope at least double that make the Poole game and cheer on the boys. COYMB

Re: Banbury

Sometimes you have to accept results like that happen.  Pratty knew they were trying to get him sent off - earlier incident in the penalty box when their player went down holding his head - so he might have been a bit careful.  Having said that, that's the way he plays, chasing players down, so I can't blame him.
Not sure where Kent was for the goal, but from where I was it looked like an empty goal, he was so far over to the left as we looked at it.  Cheating and time wasting apart I thought Banbury were lively.

Re: Banbury

Bigger attendance than Bath City by the way.

Re: Banbury

Downside last night was we just couldn't get past their 2 big centre backs which also seemed to be a problem in previous home games where teams employed the same tactics. Plus side we never gave up and while some individuals had poor games noone stopped running. I think a draw would have been a fair result ( which the speed their keeper was moving from the off seemed to be the extent of their ambitions) but as Inside Left says Banbury didn't look a bad side when they concentrated on playing football instead of some of the other tactics they employed.

Re: Banbury

The boys kept going right to the end that's all we can ask.
Sandell  in days like that is better as a supplier of the ball as he seems to create space for himself to put a good ball in the box.
Ryan mixed it up when he came on does not seem to waist a ball good vision and feet.

Re: Banbury

Is it fair to say the match officials were poor? As there were several fouls given that shouldn't of been, also Banbury took ages to take throw ins and goal kicks without any of the officials speeding them up, must of wasted a good 5-7 minutes. I can appreciate this is game management and unfortunately part of the game, but seriously come on! Overall it was good to see the lads fighting to the end, it showed once again, that we have winners throughout the whole squad. We missed pookys experience and Matt smiths legs in midfield, but saying that Allen had a good game I thought and Gutherie was unlucky to come off at half time having done nothing wrong, but understandably management had to change something. I personally would of kept Felix on, as he is a threat going forward, just thought the ball could of been switched a lot quicker, leaving him with space to attack their full back, but we go again, come on boys! Also great to see a good turn out yesterday.
