Cambridge was always a really tough place to go, but they now ground share with St Ives and seem to have mixed home form. We won 0-3 there last season. We need to take Tuesdays superb performance with us to St Ives. I'm sure Mark & Tom won't need to fire the lads up they will be buzzing and raring to go. We need a result to keep pace with the top group. Good luck to Mark, Tom and the lads. Let's get the result we need. π

Good to see a few familiar faces today and of course a win! Mark said at HT (0-1) that he was willing to sacrifice our usual game for the result. The pitch was rock hard and in poor order. We played in bursts and tbh should have had a couple more with Prattys chances. That said Cambridge did play some football late on and scored a really well taken consolation - They looked good at set peices, but really should have been down to 10 with that brute of a #9 getting away with some dreadful challenges. Great won though, we can save the show pony stuff for another day.

When we arrived in St Ives and I first saw the pitch my first impression was this isn't going to be a game football like we witnessed at Weymouth on Tuesday night. The pitch was very up and down, dry and very bumpy, the grass was long it seemed to have been rolled down flat rather than cut. As George previously says the slick passing game was never going to happen on that surface. Chippenham started the game on the front foot forcing an early save from Cambridges debutante keeper Josh Smith, who had just signed in time to play. The pattern of play continued with Chippenham pushing forward but finding it difficult against there two banks of four defensive set up. In the 14 minute Dave Pratt collected the ball, the defender forced him wide but he took him on and outpaced him around the outside he took the ball to the goal line and squared an inch perfect cross into his partner Andy Sandell who volleyed it past the flat footed Smith from close range taking his total for the season to four. Chippenham had more of the ball with the hard working Pratt and Sandell causing Cambridge problems with Conor McCormack and Nuno Felix getting forward at every opportunity out wide and joing the attacks. Cambridge looked dangerous on the counter attack and Kent made a smart save from there handfull of a Centre forward Tunda Adewunmi. Half time came with the score at 0-1. The second half started with Cambridge pushing forward but with only half chances to show for it. In the 54 minute Chippenham doubled there lead with Fergie chasing down lost causes the goal keeper and centre back got in a mix up the ball bounced off the keeper allowing Fergie to smash the ball int the empty net. Four minutes latter the game was over as a contest when a far post cross saw Fergie get up really well at the far post and loop his header back over the keeper and into the goal, despite the defender lunching and heading the ball clear the linesman flag was straight up to signal for the goal. The two Fergie goals going down as goal keeping errors and not giving Josh Smith the debut he would have hoped for. Cambridge should have been down to 10 men when there very over physical centre forward Adewunmi caught Tindle full in the face with a flying elbow. How the young ref, who generally had a good game didn't send him off I just don't know as it happened very close to him. It was whilst Tindle who was off the pitch with blood streaming from a nasty cut across the bridge of his nose that Cambridge scored there consolation goal with some good passing football the ball was swung to the far post with substitute Charlie Woolf heading in from close range giving Kent no chance. Preece replaced Tindle for the last 10 minutes as Chippenham took there foot off the gas and sat deep with the game safe. A very workman like performance our shape looked very good and once the first goal went in we took control with players 1 to 11 working hard and backing each other up all over the pitch. Well done Mark, Tom and the lads. Bring on the Cinderford at Chippenham on Tuesday night. It would be nice to have a few more through the turnstiles but I think that will come if we continue to get the results. π

I did think to my self earlier in the day Regi, where was Beedon, but then forgot to ask Mark. There could be a good reason he wasn't there, but It will be difficult for them to break back into the squad. But if there patient and keep working hard they will get there chances. It's just whether they are prepared to play in the reserves, I'm not sure Beedon, who runs a pub and is a really nice guy would be. But we will have to see. Once your a bit down the pecking order with this squad it is difficult to get back up espesially with the last two performances. I can't see any team changes for the Cinderford game it was a very controlled performance from all 11 players. Only doubt Tindle but I think he'll be ok. I know he will want to be out there leading the team.
