has gone - asked to be released.

Ashans story is a complicated one, I wish Ash all the best where ever he ends up. We desperately need to bring in an out and out goal scoring striker to take the pressure off of Sands and share the work load. We create a lot of chances a lot more than most sides. Perhaps with Ash gone some extra money may be available. But we all know the right players are not cheap and not easy to obtain this time of the year, it does help that the side sit in a play off spot. I'll bet Marks phone has been busy this week.

Always liked the look of Holgate for you and caused us several problems before, well like most of your team

Good Luck Ash - hope everything works out.

I've just heard about Ash from a work colleague. I had reservations about Ash and how he fitted in our current pattern of play, and I have to say in my view he was beginning to form a good partnership with Andy. Very sorry to hear that he has asked to be released. Perhaps this could be to do with his injury or possibly work commitments. Agree with Jono that let's hope the Manager has got a 'wish list' of players he would like to bring in. Give me Dave Pratt any day if he can be tempted away from Bath City. Perhaps Pratty could bring McCoottee (excuse thespelling) with him - WOW - Sandell/Pratt/McCoottee in the same side - awesome !!!!!

I was never a big fan of Holgate but wish him a speedy recovery and hope he gets back playing in the future. He was not the answer to our goal scoring issues. He drifted in and out of the game too much and gave the ball away when he should have been taking shots on goal. What we need is a player who can play off Andy much like Gilroy did with Beano. Finally lets start playing wingers again I know we were short handed last time out but nothing unsettles a defence like a pacey wing man who can take it to the line and put a good cross in. Bally and Guthrie can do the job.

I think it's important McCormack gets fit (and stays fit) very soon. That'll give us the option of playing Bally further forward where he can be most effective.

I think it is a shame when any player asks to leave your club but in Ashan's case he always seemed a straight up kind of bloke and I can only imagine this is for a good reason and hope to see him back on his feet soon. I kind of agree with the bulk of this thread when they say Ashan was not the answer to our goal scoring problem and with only 36 Goals scored in the league this season we DO have one. We were reliant on Sandell in the early stages and it seems that hasn't really changed. Griff coming back is only temporary this will not fix our long term problems and possibly won't fix our short term goal of achieving a playoff finish. Sandell is technically the best we have ever had here with the possible exception of James Constable but the reason Beano shone so brightly is Dave Gilroy! A man that played off him superbly and created not just assists for his goals but space for the times he did it alone. With Holgate gone it is time for the board, the manager and whoever else is responsible to dig deep and find us a gem. Hard at this stage of the season but we need someone who is going to link up well with Sands and form an effective and lethal partnership. At times this season Chippenham have looked brilliant and at others have looked like they are ghosting through games. We have a real chance if we can just find a few more wins and not be affected by injuries and suspensions. Get to the playoffs and then let's really have a crack at getting out of this hellish league. Still maintain the Southern Premier is the hardest league to get out of and we are proving that year after year but. Stay strong, get a good striker in plus a few more squad players to strengthen that bench up in the latter stages and WE WILL BE THERE. Keep the faith

I might be wide of the mark, but perhaps Ashan out of respect for Mark and Tom did the honourable thing by asking to be released from his contract. If his injury is long term, presumably he could have sat it out on a salary with there being no possibility of him actually paying. This way the money has been freed up and can be spent on another striker. If this is the case, then fair play to him.
